Re: Test Batch??? Help???

It's 220ml of methanol. Heet in the yellow bottle is pure methanol.

I use a glass kitchen measuring cup to measure out the methanol. Works great.

If I understand it, you are wanting to use a whole bottle of methanol? If so you would need 1775ml of oil. How much lye are you putting in the liter?

Re: Test Batch??? Help???

If you are using 6.5 grams of lye to a 1000ml of oil you would need to use 11.5 grams for the 1775ml of oil. A quart equals to .94625L or 946.25ml.

Re: Test Batch??? Help???

I am not producing on a big scale yet, but on the test batches I've made I use a jar and shake like crazy for a minute or two. It is not easy to get it all dissolved. I have not tried any KOAH yet, they say it works better.

Re: Test Batch??? Help???

For test batches it really helps to shake for about 5 to 10 minutes to get as much oil in contact with the alcohol and KOH.

Some use a blender that has a glass container to mix their test samples.

On KOH, I can attest to the effectiveness and ease of use. It really dissolves in the alcohol very quickly and speeds up the transesterfication of the oil into biodiesel.

While you will have to use a little more per batch, not having it turn into hard soap (as opposed to using NaOH), is a really big plus if you screw up. It's very tolerant of mistakes in the batch.
