Re: Thoughts and concerns about Bio-Diesel?????????
Ford recommends no more than a 5% (B5)concentration. Many on this site run comfortably on 20% (B20). If you get it only in 100% concentration, you will need to dilute with regular diesel.
Also, there is a index topic related to biodiesel on this site and additional information in the threads.
Truck will run a little smoother and quieter. Bio is more of a solvent so it will also clean your fuel system (ie., dirty your filter....) so you may need to change the filter after a few thousand miles.....

Re: Thoughts and concerns about Bio-Diesel?????????
What flywheel was pointing out was that if you are purchasing or making B-100 you would need to dilute it in order to satisfy the MANUFACTURERS recomendation.
I personally run B-100 in the summer and B-50 in the winter to avoid gell ups.
There is a whole section on this forum about BioDiesel. Go THERE and read all you can.
This is another great source of BD information. Check IT out too. I'm a member of that forum too and I can tell you from first hand experience it's the best place on the web to talk about and learn about making and using BioDiesel or using Straight Vegetable Oil as diesel fuel.
Good luck,
Wayne

99 F-250 Powerstroke aproximately 5,000 miles on biodiesel. (B-50 in winter)
Re: Thoughts and concerns about Bio-Diesel?????????
Check to see the percentage offered by the local station. Is it B-5, B-20 or B-99, based on the percentage of biodiesel in diesel.
Also, biodiesel is an excellent solvent. Start with small percentages (5% to 10%) and have a spare filter on hand. The biodiesel will dislodge any varnish buildup in the fuel system and end up filling the fuel filter.
I know folks who have worked up to B-99 or even B-100 in a 7.3, though most agree B-50 is the max acceptable for a 6.0 PSD.

Re: Thoughts and concerns about Bio-Diesel?????????
hmm....in my 95, I went straight to B100 and have over 1200 miles with no new filter yet....knock on wood. Been running it most of the winter with no problems.

Re: Thoughts and concerns about Bio-Diesel?????????
I was just checking what you meant on that response. I brew my own already and have been running B100 in my 7.3. At least in the warmer months. My dad ran B100 in his 6.0 and another friend is running B100 when he has enough in his 6.0. I just aquired a new 6.0 in addition to my 7.3. So I will be adding that to the list soon.
In that 95, you will replace that filter soon. I would recommend within 5000 miles to change it if you are running high concentrations of Bio. It is cleaning the tank and fuel lines, and that first filter will look terrible. After that, filter changing slows down, almost back to normal.
Remember, we aren't eating this stuff, we're turning it into diesel fuel. Your truck only cares about viscosity, acidity, and BTUs. Nothing else. -unknown?

Re: Thoughts and concerns about Bio-Diesel?????????
Well you dont need to add lubricity to biodiesel thats for sure.
For cold weather, I will fill the tank halfway with kerosene, add antigel, and then pour the biodiesel on top of it for a thorough mix.
It's worked for me down to about 25 degrees so far, power is off since it's got kerosene in it.
But other than a plugged fuel filter when I started running biodiesel and fixing the fuel gelling problem in cold weather, biodiesel has been great for my truck.

That is good news.
I had read everywhere that diesel additives won't do anything for Bio. So this is good news. Thanks for the link.

you are welcome!!
just what i thought, can one use to much PS? i know it needs to be mixed like the can says, but will to much hurt a diesel?
