Used 250 Gallon Fuel Oil tank

I have access to a used 250 gallon fuel oil tank. I am thinking on using it to store biodiesel in large quanties to get a price break. Another thought is for me to start making my own biodiesel using this tank for storage of the finished product.

My questions are:

1. Is anyone out there using a used fuel oil tank for bisdiesel?
2. Is 250 gallons a large enough quanty to get any prove break.

I use about 25 gallons a week of No. 2 diesel fuel in my 2001 Ford Excursion with the turbo 7.3 Power stroke engine with cast iron rods.

Re: Used 250 Gallon Fuel Oil tank

I don't see why you couldn't use that tank. I'd clean & flush it & maybe run some biocide in it first. Around here though, the price break comes @ 300g. The dealer sells the fuel in a 300g carboy, that has a deposit on it. You bring it back & they trade it for another.

Better have a seperate trailer for the carboy though. I don't remember the weight of diesel (somewhere around 7.5 #/g), so 300g is going to weigh oh, about 2,500#
