Using a gas sucking pump?

Is a gas powered pump a bad idea for gathering the oil? In some cases I have been told its to powerefull and will suck to much garbage through the strainer?

I have gone through 2 electric pumps just like the one you sell on your site only I got mine through www.northerntool.com The first one burned out the motor from sucking up to cold and slow moving oil and the second had gotten so covered in oil that I couldnt bare working with it. (the smell and the hose was coated in road dirt ect..)

Im thinking a gas powered small pump (under 5hp) will eliminate my problem sucking oil in colder weather?

I live in Charlotte NC and though it rarely gets below 20 degrees I prefer not to run diesel during the winter.

Re: Using a gas sucking pump?

I have an 1 1/2" gas engine pump but have never tried it for pumping wvo, frankly I'd be afraid of the mess I might make.

but when I built my water injection system I bought 2 Shurflo pumps off of a guy on flea bay and I've used one of them to pump wvo and it works pretty good but perhaps a little slow, even though it says not for pumping oil.

Anyway my pump is just like this one except mine has a 100 psi pressure switch.

Re: Using a gas sucking pump?

Ive got a 5.5 horse trash pump that works great. Fills 30 gal drums in about 2 minutes. It was designed for 3" hose but I reduced it dowm to 1¼ swimming pool hose to make it easier to handle.
