I just heard that the state of Maine has a fine if they find any fuel veg or whatever in your tank, they say they are not getting their fair share of tax, their is a guy few miles away who sells it at a station, the tax has been paid, and he gives you a receipt with the milage when you filed up, but it selling .65 cents over diesel, state getting most of the $, so far this is the only state doing it that i know of. I am pretty shure other states will follow, That sucks, I was thinking of running veg, not now.

Thats not right. Is it veggy oil in general, or SVO, WVO. What about bio. And even if you make it yourself. I would still brew my own Bio or run WVO. If i got in trouble i would make a case against it saying that it is unconstitutional.
This thread is probably going to get moved to the Bio diesel Group. I would make a post and see what the veggy group has to say.

I agree that the concept sucks, however, there is no difference between this and getting caught with off road diesel - (road)tax evasion. I would assume that to remain legal one would have to pay the road tax per gallon used.

their is ussually an exemption for the tax if you can claim it as an additive or you have so many gallons before you need to pay taxes on it
I run WVO in my car and converting my PSD soon. I do clam that it is just an additive that helps improve my fuel mileage. I still buy diesel, have to start and stop on diesel.
I would even pay the tax on it but how are the states going to regulate that? I pick up my oil I filter it I put it in. I have a rough idea how much I use but How would the State know if I use 2 gal or 30gal.
I guess they could stop every truck and car that smells like french frys.
It is just another case of a state doing something without thinking it through.

the federal law says that you may manufacture 400 gal per quarter---per drving human--meaning for you and wife--800 gal per quarter tax free----sounds like the california jerks that want the money for the electric vehilcles because they use no road fuel--hypocrite government---

So how do you pay the tax? Or how do you NOT get hit on the Tax invasion?
I would gladly pay the tax if there was a fair way to regulate it. "Give to Cesar what is Cesar's" IT is cheeper then the $2.30 a gal for diesel. BUt it appears all they want to do is Fine us for running a waste product and not give us a way to pay for the tax up front. I have seen on fourms where people have gone to the state to find out how to pay tax for WVO and the state has no clue.
I didn't see on those links on how one was to pay for Blended fuel if they were using it.
I think we should actually get a break from some tax from our government because we are seaking a fuel that is a renewable resource and not solely dependant on oil.
As far as I know Kansas has not come up with anything similar.

I know isn't it amazing how when ever you deal with a goverment employee that they never know how to do something that's out of the ordinary?
Maybe a way to rephrase it is that you are importing a fuel for personal use and simply want to know how much money per gallon to send to the state treasury for the transportation department.
It’s a little known fact that the federal government gets money from people who just send in checks to help out.
So find out the amount and send in a check once a quarter and I bet they cash it somehow!
Just keep records of sending money and when or if you will have paper work to show the judge, you’ve done your part and that’s really all they can ask of you.

I personally think you guys are using the wrong terminology as your carrying/storing cooking oil not fuel oil!
If I was ever asked, I'm messing with cooking oil, vegetable oil, but the words "fuel oil" would never come out of my mouth
Tell me if there is a tax for using cooking oil on Interstates or with-in 10 miles of a Interstate as the Federal Gov't states, as a fuel, and I'll pay that tax without question. Thats only $180/1000gal in AZ and still cheaper than buying dino.
AZ could not collect the Federal part of road tax as the Feds exempt road tax on biodiesel upto 400gal.
Cooking oil has no rules to follow!
Unless something has recently changed, AZ requires you to file a State income tax form to receive the fuel tax credit refund. AZ charges you the fuel tax up front then makes you file a income tax form to get your money back.
So send AZ $100 up front for fuel tax then file a amended return at the end of year correcting for total gallons used on the roads. No pentalies to occur that way if you pre-pay the road tax.

Buy UNION work UNION. It pays off in the long run Define Union: A labor Union is nothing more than united workers with a common goal for better working conditions.
We all are in some sort of labor Union, some are just larger than others with better working conditions!
Could you tell us where you heard this about Maine? I would be very surprised if it were true.
Maine has one of the most liberal state tax laws around homebrew biodiesel (I don't know about WVO conversions though)- no state excise taxes on biodiesel, period, including homebrewed. I'ts possible that this changed and I don't know about it, but I"d be very surprised.
There was a big hearing or something aobut this about a year and a half ago (when they first started talking about implementing the 'tax holiday' on biodiesel), and the 'grassroots' biodiesel supporters came out in force and apparently forced them to accept 'homebrewed' biodiesel as well as commercial biodiesel when the lawmakers started talking about definitions for the law. I'd be very surprised if SVO didn't get covered in all this also.

Yup, I get 20% better mileage on diesel fuel when I add 20% biodiesel to it. It's a great additive!

First find out how much the fine is if you were to get caught,
Then deside how likely you are to get caught by exhaust sniffers.
How much would you have payed for dino diesel for the time period.
