Veggie oil vs. diesel after ignition?

Is the veggie oil similiar to diesel once it is burned in the cylinder? I am concerned about any chemical changes to the veggie oil once it is burned that might be harmful to the piston, rings, valves etc.
Are they any hard facts? Motors that have been torn apart and inspected?

Re: Veggie oil vs. diesel after ignition?

If you dont have enough EGT's, veg oil can coke, and not burn hot enough to rid the cylinder of the fats in the oil.

Thats why I like blends...Only in IDI's though...

Re: Veggie oil vs. diesel after ignition?

You really need to keep your EGT ABOVE 300 degrees (this is true with regular diesel also). Otherwise, keep it below 1250-1300 just like a regular turbo diesel engine.

Re: Veggie oil vs. diesel after ignition?

I don't know of any, but you might contact Swamp Donkey (Jonathan Ryan), owner of Swamp's Diesel Performance. He says, "We offer free inspection (complete disassembly, inspection and reassembly) of injectors for guys running alternative fuels is their PSD's."

So if you run SVO/WVO and think you have an injector problem, contact him for help. Also, he may have more experience with this than others here, so you might want to contact him and ask him your question. He supports the use of alternative fuels, and as far as I know, he has not seen any problems from running them.
