I posted this on the 94-97 forum, but I thought I would do it here as well. I was losing power this morning, so I just figured my seperate veggie filter was overdue to be changed and I switched over to diesel. This helped for a while, but as the day progressed and I was still on diesel, I was experiencing a power loss. Eventually I had to be towed home, because it wouldn't start. I replaced the stock fuel filter and tried cranking it repeatedly and still no results.
I honestly don't think this is a veggie problem. I think there is something else going on--I just have to find out what that is.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I really don't know, but if you are accepting WAGs, I'll guess bad fuel pump. Have you checked the fuel pressure? Second guess, injector pressure regulator.
The first step is to check and see if there is any air in the fuel system, and if there is, the next is to bleed it out. Normally if a PSD gets some air in the system (from running a fuel tank empty before switching or something like that) it can automatically bleed quite a bit of air on it's own. However with the return line blocked from returning fuel and air to the tank, it's ability to bleed itself may be significantly impaired. To me not having a return line appears to be one of the biggest faults of the greasel system. Every diesel engine I have ever looked at had a return line, and I think manufacturers don't just put them there for no reason.
sounds like the filter is plugged--or theres another screen in the bottom of your fuel filter--that may be plugged also--have to look in past posts for the location of that other screen

I haven't checked fuel pressure--don't know how to be honest. I changed both stock and veggie filters and checked the screen at the top of the filter--clean. Greasel does put a return line in their systems, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be purging. I drove it around today for quite a few hours trying to purge it. During that time I had periods where it ran quite well and then it would go downhill again, so I believe that pretty much rules out the injectors. I really suspect the fuel pump or simply not being able to purge the air for whatever reason. Unfortunately, I don't have enough diesel knowledge to really troubleshoot the thing. I'll play around with it tonight and if I can't get it, I'll probably have it towed to a mechanic and have them laugh at me--hey, someone's gotta entertain the world.

If it has a return line it should be able to purge the air out on it's own quite quickly. In checking to see how far I can go on a tank of fuel I have run one tank empty before switching to the other one, and the engine was back to full power within 10 seconds. (I wouldn't do that often, though, because it is probably hard on the fuel pump to run air through it)
So if you are having problems with air in the system it is probably either a bad fuel pump, or else it is sucking air in somewhere.
If it is sucking air in then either you have developed a leak in the fuel line, or else there is a clog somewhere in the fuel line which is partly blocking the flow of fuel and causing a vacuum to develope and making it suck air in where it otherwise would not.
My money (2 cents) is still with the fuel pump being the culprit.

I'm not sure which screen you mean. The Fuel Pressure Regulator screen? (FPR bolts to the driver's side of the fuel bowl, and the screen is between the bowl and the regulator)
Yeah--that's the screen I'm talking about. I think it's the pump as well.
