I finally got around to loading a batch of veggie in my 04 Vegistroke conversion and trying it out. After a few veggie spills, changes to the filtration setup, and some other embarrasing moments, the time came to try out the veggie. A simple matter of adjusting the fuel pressure regulator and running up the road. Wifey even came with for the test run. Didn't take long before I could smell a funny smell, not unlike that of the old rc plane castor exhaust odor from 2 hobbies ago. Ran great, I couldn't tell the difference, performance wise. I did notice that the fuel pressure reduced as I got heavy on the pedal, and it quite possibly reverted to diesel supply for a few seconds. Maybe it was the performance chip causing the fuel to dump heavily into the cylinders
Now to get the Dawn dishwashing liquid out to clean up the nasty mess in the workshop from all the spills during construction and debugging. I am not even embarrassed to share that part, as I know nobody human could do what was required to get all this working without at least a few ugly spills
So now, anybody who says that the newer 6.oL does not fare well on veggie for whateever reason...well, there are at least 2 of use doing this successfully so far. Now where did I put that bottle of soap?...

I guess I have to be on the lookout for trucks on vegie oil now... I have only come across 1 car that I could tell was running on vegie oil and that was a mercedes 300D that needed to be put down, it had alot of rust.

I just came back from a 2nd test run, after swapping out the tank fuel sender, it was incompatible with my gauge. Now the 62 gallon tank gauge reads perfectly. And it's no trouble at all, to tell I am burning grease!!! When I stop for a red light, the whole dang intersection reeks of back-of-restaurant, I am NOT KIDDING!
Anyhow I am on cloud nine after a successful conversion and huge effort figuring out which type filtration setup to go with. See my other notes regarding bag filters, they work great. It's just cool as heck driving up the road, watching the diesel fuel gauge stuck in place, and the veggie fuel gauge seemingly also stuck, cause the tank is so dang big. Heck 62 gallons times 20 mpg is 1240 miles one way!
Here is to hoping the Aeromotive holds out just fine, long term. I am planning on designing a closed loop fuel pump controller if I get the time, which will operate just like the stock fuel pump controller. If you noticed when you turn on the ignition key on newer model trucks and likely cars too(not sure how far back this setup goes), the fuel pump ramps up and actually stops when it reaches the proper presssure. This is what we need. All it takes is a microcontroller and a feedback signal in the form of a pressure transducer. But like anything, it takes time, which is scarce. If there is a lot of interest in this, maybe I will prioritize it.

So in a nutshell how did you do the conversion on the 6.0l?
Are you using two seperate fuel pumps kind of like the FN74? Or are you just using a 6 port valve behind one of the two stock fuel filters.
I am curious if the 6.0 is anything like the 7.3 as far as high pressure fuel pump goes where as to my understanding if your going to utilize the stock fuel pump you need to port the 6 port valve before the fuel pump not after.
I am thinking of putting a 6 port valve just before the 2nd fuel stock fuel filter thus giving me a short purge time.
Honestly I'm not sure if the filter on the frame rail is a combo pump/primary fuel filter, I think it is, but not sure; if so I'd go with the latter.
Thanks for any info. I'm ready to start working on the Excursion now that I have the 7.3 greasin.

On edit I found this. But I'd still like to know how you did it.

Actually, the OEM systems are probably on a timer. If you cycle the key off immediately after the pump stops, it'll run for the same amount of time, in my experience. I agree with the idea of closed loop fuel pressure. I'm all about efficiency.
I did a Vegistroke system. One update though
The entire system works great...well almost too good...there is so much veggie exhaust smell in the cab it actually makes my eyes burn. I did notice a while back some exhaust smell in the cab, and especially when stading aside the open hood while running one gets get burning watery eyes from the diesel exhaust, that obviously shouldn't be there. But since the veggie smokes a lot more than when burning diesel, it really comes thru into the cab. So I looked under the engine ans sure enough many of the manifold connections and the y pipe connection show signs of leakage. Looks like I gotta take my veggie system all off and make it look stock to get this TSB failure repaired. What on earth was in their minds when they thought that installing manifolds in the factory without gaskets, was a good thing?
How depressing to have to remove a great working setup, even if temporarily.

rcdallas, I would HIGHLY recommend you leave the stock system alone. If only in case something fails in the veggie system, like a clogged filter or bad pump you are not left on the side of the road. I have an extreme state of confidence driving this setup as a result. Commingling the 2 systems just increases the probability of failure. Plus the stock pumps don't do well with veggie. They are expensive too. We are having enough trouble making high performance pumps work in this application. Just my 2 cents.

how long have you been doing this with your truck.I just got an 04 f250 and would like to do the same. hope it is still working well. ebear63@yahoo.com
