Virgin here

To biodiesel that is

So I finally have a station close that has B20 and its 30 cents cheaper than reg diesel. So is it best to ease into using B20? I filled up with 10 gals and the topped off with reg diesel. So I guess I basically have something like 7% diesel. If my mileage doesn't change I would like to go to straight B20. So can I do this right away or is easing into it better? What things should I watch out for with my truck?

oh its a 2005 6.0

thanks

If you are like me you will like the effects of biodiesel. The smell is more pleasing and the motor gets a bit smoother. Good lubrication for the fuel system. Biodiesel is a good solvent. It will clean out the fuel system of reg diesel sludge. This is where some problems can come from. I started off slow with b5 and gradually worked up to b50. I changed my fuel filters after every four fill ups. I put around 1-2 more gallons of bio on each fill up. Bio will gel at around 40 to 32 deg f dependant on feed stock. So in winter time I don't dare to go over b50. #2 diesel or #1 diesel will bring down the gel point considerably according to my fuel manufacturer. Just keep a spare fuel filter handy in case you need to change one on the fly.

Biodiesel will burn in any equipment that burns petro diesel, including hot water washers and bullet heaters. You will notice very little difference with B20 and filter clogging will not be an issue unless you have been fueling up with some really nasty fuel. It does add back the lubricity that is lost because of ULS diesel changes. If you can find B100 go right ahead and fill up.

I just tried my first few tanks of B20. Truck runs great with it, but it seems I lost about 3 mpg's.
