According to an article I have seen here the "foolproof" method eliminates the need for titrations and produces a better quality fuel with less glycerine byproduct etc.

True, but no matter what method you end up using, EVERYONE, and I do mean everyone, suggests beginning with small 1 litre trial batches using titrations and the original single stage method of making Bio-D. This way you KNOW what a good batch looks like and you start with simple materials.
In fact, you should start with pure, new veggie oil and use the lowest numbers of lye and methanol so that you actually produce a good batch and now have a basis to look for when you start making bio-d out of Waste Oil.
If you go to the infopop forum, you will find several knowledgable people who have really come down hard on that process. Several people have posted bad experiences with that process and there are several with detailed reasons explaining why that process is anything but foolproof.
That being said, you should go and read those posts prior to trying that method. At least you can proceed with a little more knowledge.

Thanks Bobby. I am still in planning & research stage now so I don't know yet what type processor/method I will use yet. I will check the site though before I start plumbing! It says it's foolproof but there sure seems to be a lot more steps involved. More steps opens you up for more mistakes. Thanks again.

bundo--we LOVE our tdi--bought it for great mileage--veggie oil burning is just a bonus!!!!! and they drive and run great---BUT-i do all my own repairs and service--they are a bit of a niche vehicle--have to be able to do own repairs, as most vw dealers are dumb with them--check out tdiclub for any info you need, on just about any repair needed!!!!! good luck!!!!!! also most dealers are nuts for any repair cost!!!!!!

I've been too busy, even to get on the net lately. I think I may go buy a VW TDI this weekend to use as a test-bed.

Bundo, I would advise against that. (I am assuming that you are talking about a newer one) They are kinda touchy. VWOA no longer will warranty anything that has ever had any bD in it.
Now, a vintage MB E class (1982-1999) would be awesome. Ive heard that those E classes will run on anything. Some people are running SVO. All SVO........
