What does everyone think about mixing different used oils

I have a few locations giving oil. When I make my Bio, I usually have 90% oil from the same place. Now, if I was to mix oils that titrate to different levels and I mixed them well will the titration blend or would it be different with different samples?

I mix 40 gallons a time and if there was 5 gallons that wouldnt blend with the other 35 gallons then my titration sample would be skewed and I could be too high or low on the use of KOH

I would also lake to say here that I have made over 700 gallons of Bio that I have mixed and ran with #2 (sometimes as strong as 80% bio) in my 2006 F250 that how has just above 50K trouble free miles

Re: What does everyone think about mixing different used oils

Seems pretty simple to me but then I use NaOH.

Just titrate both or all the different batches seperatly and if they fall within your parameters mix em up and re-titrate.

I use WVO from 4 different sources and have been very fortunate that they normally fall in the 1 to 2 area... just lucky I guess.

Let us know what you do, be interesting to hear your decision and results.

Re: What does everyone think about mixing different used oils

Why titrate individually? mix them up and titrate the end result.

Re: What does everyone think about mixing different used oils

agreed, you certainly could do it that way.. my response was based on what I thought might have been the concern that one or more of the batches were way off and you wouldn't want to add that to a really good batch. either way works

Re: What does everyone think about mixing different used oils

I just didnt know if they would mix.. Meaning that one part needed more KOH than the other. I have been doing it that way and I have always made successful batches so I guess it dosent matter. Just a question of what might be taking place.

On another note, I thought KOH was more forgiving to use!

Re: What does everyone think about mixing different used oils

I normally mix "bad" oil if it is higher 4-5 with good oil 1-2. i let it mix in my processor for about 5 minutes and it mixes very well. If i test both oils before mixing i can almost always guess the outcome by mutiplying on a percentage basis. I have never had a problem doing this.
