What to Expect When Running Bio-D?

When starting to use biodiesel, what are the issues or differences from petro diesel that we need to be aware of?

I have heard about clogging up fuel filters. How many miles after starting biodiesel should be the filter be changed out? Are there any other things to be aware of?

Thanks,
Bryan

Re: What to Expect When Running Bio-D?

W/ a 02 you mightsee a filter clog, if you've had some cruddy fuel. Bio is a GREAT solvent. Otherwise you might see a 1 -2 mpg drop if you use B100. Other than that, you might find your engine getting a bit quieter & smoother.

I'd advise a b-20 mix for awhile, & if the power seems to fade out, check your fuel filter.

Otherwise, no problemo.

Re: What to Expect When Running Bio-D?

If you have very many miles on the vehicle in question, you should probably keep a spare filter on hand. You will likely have to change it a few times as Bio will clean your lines and tank of residue from petrol diesel. After all the gunk is out, you likely won't have to change it very often.

Re: What to Expect When Running Bio-D?

Check out my experience with biodiesel here:

Biodiesel report (long)

Bottom line: I liked it, but it was inconvenient and expensive to get. If B100 were available at the my favorite fuel station for perhaps 10-20% more than regular diesel, I would burn B100 in the warm months and B25 in the winter, but I'm not enough of a crusader to put lots of effort into it.
