Wired article on diesel/elec hybrids

STORY HERE

Nothing on bio-diesel in the story itself, but if one were to USE bio-Diesel in one of these hybrids... well, I think the results would speak for themselves.

Also note the link to other stories at the bottom, most of them are Bio-D related.

Agreed, a diesel or even a turbo-electric drive would be lightyears ahead in many aspects to current technology.

Diesel-electric drives have been used for decades in locomotives, ships, and submarines.

The dieselization of North America's railways was put forth by the United States Navy so that high-speed diesels would be developed for use in submarines during the Second World War.

You know if our 4X4's had a seperate 80HP electric motor in each wheel and indendent steering they would be monsters that could climb over everything [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif[/img]! Hmm maybe a six wheeler?

One of these bad boys should work

120Kw, 480ft/lb's of TQ at 1800 RPM. Thats almost dead on with my PSD as compared to my last dyno run.
