WMO Filter

I am considering burning wmo in my 96 powerstroke. I have read all of the threads and this is what I am thinking. 75% wmo, 25% Kerosene for thinning, and add diesel kleen and power service to every tank just like the diesel secret formula. I am am planning on setting up some sort of filtering station. and using amsoils dual bypass filtering system to filter this mix. Amsoil claims to filter down to 1/10 of a micron. what does everybody else think? Will this work alright?

Steven Smith

Current Diesel price where I am is 3.20

Re: WMO Filter

Actually Amsoil only claims to filter to 1 micron not one tenth, but even that would be a slow process. There is a restrictive orifice (0.092) in the filter head that would realy slow things down. For the price of the amsoil setup you could go to http://www.filterbag.com/ and buy a bunch of 1 and 5 micron filters and still be time and money ahead.

Re: WMO Filter

or if you just want to test a batch (like i did recently), buy a bag of vacuum cleaner 'alergy' bags at WalMart... back of the bag says they filter down to 5 microns.
takes about an hour to filter a gallon of uncut WMO & it's a mess, but you have no money tied up in a filtration system if you decide not to coninue.

i currently have 6 gallons of filtered WMO ready to go using this method & plan on making a pump/filter combo soon.

Re: WMO Filter

bigsteve,

I, and some others on here, have successfully run 100% WMO. I have run probably 100 gallons of 100% WMO through my '00 7.3L PSD. I know someone else (bluemule or 94_turbo?) has stated that they have run about 400 gallons.

Re: WMO Filter

Permacool has a fuel filter/water seperator rated at 2 micron for $35 that you could use as a filter for WMO that would get it filtered fairly well before adding it to your deisel. Replacement filters are $14

Hi bigsteve. Are you using a second tank and/or heating your WMO (100%) or are you just putting it in your stock tank? I would seem things could be a little tough with oil until the heads are good and warm.

I have had a few drinks, I think I might go dump about 4 gallons of WMO into my truck....LOL (My tank is pretty empty, probably 5 gallons of #2 in it) (actually, the WMO I have in mind has been filtered through denim and been settling/sitting about 9 months in a closed 5 gallon pail, so I am kinda serious about this. Maybe I will start with about 2 gallons though)

Re: WMO Filter

hmm I have enough WMO to fill my tank. I think there may be some antifreeze mixed in at least one container though. What can I run the stuff through to take that out?

Re: WMO Filter

I would just recycle the oil that is possibly contaminated. I don't think it would be easy to seperate the antifreeze.

Re: WMO Filter

Well, I (sort of) took the plunge today. I currently have about 23 gallons of bio, 3.5-4 gallons of WMO and 10-15 gallons of diesel.

Seems to run fine so far. I put about 40 miles on. After I was done spray drying the bio, I dumped the WMO (filtered and settled for more than 6 months)into the spray dry drum and mixed it well (pump) while it was warm from drying. Let it settle/cool overnight and pumped it in this AM.
