There's a new Chinese place that let me put out a 150 gal. tank to collect oil, Cause he said the 55 Gal. drum was too small. I thought "right, He's overestimateing".
I went by today to check, and it has about 100 gallons in it! He's only been open since last Wednesday, 8 days!
From looking downin it, it looks pretty clear and golden, all liqued that I can see. And that's at 30* this morning, and about 50* when I was looking.
I'm gonna have to ramp up if he's gonna produce 100 gallons a week!
Man that is AWESOME! Never would have thought you could go through that much oil that quick. Are you up and running on Bio yet?

Dang that's the problem; I am not in production yet. I've been slowly moveing along, waiting to get the oil (I expected about 10-15 gallons a week) and then start produceing. I hvewn't been in any real rush, 'cause I thought even after I started getting the oil, it would be be a while before I had enough for a large batch (30+ gallons)
Lucky though, I'm off the next 3 shifts, so I don't go back 'till after Thanksgiving. I'm gonna spend all my time in the next several days putting the final finishes on the processor, and filtering the oil. I should be in (large batch) production by 1st of the week.
Fire1, do you know of a local supplier of NaOH in large quantities?
I have not researched it yet, but I would think some place in the metro area would be able to supply in bulk. One of the reasons I have not gone into Bio production is I dreaded finding multiple sources to get enough oil and then picking up from multiple sources. You hit pay dirt.
I did make my first Dr. Pepper method batch last night though, with new oil.
Good luck with the processor!

I am in your area and have a 275 gal tote. If you need help getting some of the oil just PM me. I can help you until you get ready to process all of their oil. I can also pay you for some of the oil you can not process right now.

The immediate storage problem covered. Here's the situation:
A friend of mine got me started on the BD idea. He was talking about it, had some info, we talked and he said he was gonna do it. He bought a diesel Mercedes even.
So, I jump in and start building a processor. As I got almost finished with it, I started looking for oil. Initially, I had trouble finding oil. I saw a Chinese place that was getting ready for it's grand opening. I talked to the owner...And eventually set out my homemade 150 gallon WVO tank.
Now, my friend who got me started, has not built a processor yet. He does have a good start on things though, but no water heater yet, and no plumbing. He does have storage tanks, and pumps though.
So, I've talked to him, and he can take some overflow of oil, for a while. I'll be processing as I go, and storeing both BD and WVO.
BUT,... if he isn't up and running soon, like maybe 2 weeks, I'll be swimming in oil and need a place to get rid of it.
Txcas, If I get to that point, you're on. My main concern is to make sure to keep the resteraunt owner happy, and get the oil out of his way before the renderers try to steal it out of my tank.
Understand that it will be a temporary situation, until he gets up and running, then I've got to take care of my bud first.
I'm a little ways from GP, I'm 45 miles South East of Dallas.
I understand. 45 miles South East of of Dallas and you call that N. Texas? Just kidding. That is nothing, I travel miles 35 to go to work every day. Hey a friend of mine is having a Bio class in Lancaster on December 3. If you are interested I can send you his information.

are you sure its all oil? one of the places i pick up from has 150 gal dumpster that some how gets alot of water in it. the last time i pumped i only got 60 or 70 gal the thing was full to the top and i only got 2/3rds out, after that it started getting wet. i was lucky a friend gave me a 1000 gal tank i set it up to hold my WVO.
This in Plano/Richardson? All I can say is good score. As one pointed it there maybe water in with that.
Everyone says Chinese places have good oil. I'll tell you what; over here in the Detroit area; alot of these chinese places have some of the worst oil I've seen, one place I about 'd from the smell.
A few use lard, some mix it with soy oil, some is refined soy oil.
In Plano/Dallas I can see the oil is great, only because there's definately more cash flow in that area, but up here it's not the same.
Definately a great score though, good luck!

I just got back from pumping the tank
It did seem to have a lot of water, it looked good on top, but a lot of it got really creamy/emulsified as it pumped into the barrels. i ended up getting about 80 gallons, and had to leave about another 20-25 gallons in the tank. My pump stopped up.
I "made" a pump with a Chevy smallblock oil pump. It pumped great, until I took the window screen off the end I was useing to strain it with. I took it off so I could see the end and watch it as it went down, keeping it just under the top. Well, the pump froze. There's something in the gears.
Overall, I'm pretty happy. I think the oil has about 20% water, maybe less.
I leave it in the barrels a couple days, maybe it will settle some.
have you checked the FFA of the oil yet?
some times when the change out their fryers the leave the water in what they dump out, one place i pick up from twice a week they change the oil, they have two 5gal jugs one will be all oil and the other will be half water and oil i take the oil and dump the other in the 55gal drum to set for a week or so and pump out the top.
Scbaguy- Most places I have seen clean out there friers with a degreaser and water, then put all of it on the dumpster. Obviously you don't want water but, who knows what kind of degreaser they use. I'm not sure I want that in my oil either. I havn't heard of anyone burning degreaser, I'm sure lots have, unknowingly, I just don't want to. If the place is kind enough they will seperate it for ya.
