WVO Bio question?

I am wanting to learn more and possibly get into making bio from wvo. One of my questions is about the salt content in the wvo. What happens to it? Does it come out in the by-products or does it remain in the fuel?

If I get into this I want to build my own system instead of buying one.

How do I get a copy of girl_marks book?

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks
Steve

Re: WVO Bio question?

Once the transesterification process is complete all the residuals come out in the glycol layer and what is left on top is the Biodiesel that then needs to be thoroughly washed and dried before use.
Taking off from Girl Mark's original design I put together my own reactor based on a water heater with a few modifications that I thought were useful (and they have proven to be just that).
For an example of a working processor to give you ideas on how to build our own visit:

I no longer participate in the list forum but there are also very knowledgable people there who could help you as well as other forums dedicated to this subject. Do a search on the web and you will find plenty.

I used to be on that list also, but the guy who owns/runs the journey to forever site is about as anti-american as they come. I got into it with him pretty bad. There is a reason he "moderates" all posts to his list. If he doesnt agree with you, it doesnt get posted. Nice guy.

That said, his info is VERY useful, and while he may be a jerk, his site is a treasure trove of info.

Re: WVO Bio question?

We're working on something better than his site- a group of people are writing a new website for making biodiesel:

www.localb100.com/wiki (it won't look like this, that's just a start for while a bunch of people group-edit the site)

the actual work of compiling the articles and commenting on them is in 'forum' format, though, at www.localb00.com/forum. It's a forum JUST FOR writing the website- not for general discussion (for example, dont' go there asking for help about why your liter test batch failed, it's only for talking aobut how to write an article about how to make a test batch). But there's a lot of info that might be of interest, especially in the 'drafts' section where the better articles are.

for instance here's the draft version with photos of an article about titration:
http://www.localb100.com/wiki/index....itration_guide

All of this will look much better eventually and be separated into different 'layers' - so if you just want an overview you can get just an overview, and if you want to read all the science behind it, you can .

as for the awful biofuel list,
The better forums than his site are:
http://biodiesel.infopop.cc
and www.groups.yahoo.com/group/biodieselbasics (if you prefer lists to forums)

I strongly don't recommend the info at the biofuel list- it's not just the anti-american part, his science is from outer space too. UNfortunately a lot of that ends up at journeytoforever.

and thanks for the nice words about my book.

Mark

Re: WVO Bio question?

Thanks everyone for the info. May be asking some more questions later.
