WVO conversion

Just wanted to say thanks to all who post here about their conversions! It has be quite valuable to me!!! I just completed our first trip of 200+ miles on WVO. It was completely successful.

Anyway Thanks again!

Just FYI, its a 2002 Ford Excursion with 50,000 miles.

Re: WVO conversion

Congratulations on a successful shakedown cruise. Isn't it great to stop somewhere and enjoy the fragrance of fried fuel.... and money savings!

Do you find yourself stopping complete strangers to ask... wanna smell my truck exhaust? Well, maybe not complete strangers.

Tell us more about your system. What did you use for a tank with an Excursion? What type fuel valves? How do you heat the fuel?

Again, congratulations!

Re: WVO conversion

Yea, it was almost like a dream for the first 25 miles or so i could hardly believe it until the fuel gauge started to move...
The design is based on a completly separate fuel system similar to FN78(i think thats who it was...). It has its own fuel pump, regulator, filter, tank and plumbing. The new fuel system runs 5~10 psi higher than the stock system which will close the check valves we added to the stock diesel lines between the fuel rail and filter housing. When the WVO system is not energized, the stock diesel system will close the check valve on the WVO system.

The tank we designed and had made by a local shop. Its about 27 gal and its mounted to the frame.

Heat comes from a HIH and a Davco heated filter.
It's not quite enough since my oil temp was only 120 prior to the fuel rail. I need to add some insulation and maybe some type of electric heating just prior to the regulator/fuel rail distribution point.
Still got a couple of details to work out like the filler neck and a purge valve (designed in but not installed yet...) but the whole secondary fuel system is setup so that it can be used for diesel as well.
