I have some oil with fine particles in it. I want to filter before I process it into DB, usually I just use a window screen, But that isn't fine enough. I have also tried stockings, they seem to do what I want,But I would like to use a bucket filter. What micron would be close to the stockings?
Thanks Kevin

Hi guy, look at some of my filtering drums I play with. i have 2 pages. Diesel Blending pictures from friends & fun photos on webshots
The red drum is my Walmart laundry bag set in a Walmart hamper frame and I cut out the red drum lid so hamper frame fits part way down into drum. I figure that laundry bag to be about 20 micron and I heat up the oil in another drum to 160 degrees so it flows faster. This works very well but I have to replace or clean that laundry bag about every 150 gallons.
Before the oil is filtered in the laundry bag I filter it using 2 drum filters 1 on top of the other. I use a 200 micron under a 400 micron and then let it settle a few days before heating up tp 160 and then into laundry bag. After it filters down the laundry bag and red drum is full I pump out and mix it in black drum and then run it into my Racor twin micron filters and then into a 5 micron house water filter and then a water block filter and then stor it in the 275 gallon white tote. It takes time with heating and filtering but I never have any problems with my truck or equipment filters

I have to assume that you are going to process it into BD as I am at a loss as to what DB is. I have never used any strainers smaller than a 400 micron for oil being brewed for bio diesel. Any particles smaller than that will come out with the glycerine phase if you settle it 12 hours or more.

If tuning into biodiesel you don't need to filter the oil further down than a porch screen. If you have water in the oil that is another story though. If you have stuff in the oil like say... flour maybe then that flour can hold onto water. Settling is your best, easist, and cheapest method though. Not the fastest however...
Sorry about the dyslexic Typo. I did mean BD I usually don't worry about the small stuff. I have had poor fuel quality b/c of it. I found useing the stocking filter to make a difference. That is why I would like to know if there is another filter option.
Thanks Kevin
