There are two of us down in the keys running WVO. I have a 98 with the electric fuel pump. When I get cheap and run less than 20% #2, it takes an extra couple of seconds to start first thing in the morning and has a heavy smokey exhaust with an oily smell. If I get to 20% #2 or better, it starts better and smells less. When I started, I was adding 10% RUG. I stopped that because it was unnecessary, but in the last couple of weeks, I have begun adding it again. It really seems to help. My buddy has a 95 with the mechanical fuel pump. He has to run 10% RUG and 20% or better #2 or his truck will stall shortly after startup.
I usually judge how the engine is doing by the smell of the exhaust. I can tell when the oil is not burning well because it has a very heavy smokey smell and almost a taste in the air. When it is mixed with more #2, it has the smell of someone grilling in the distance. The van is also much more responsive.
I am looking at getting one of the inline fuel heaters to put between the tank and the fuel pump to see if that will let me run less #2
Hope this was helpful.

I was figuring 50/50 at the least. Everything is stock on this truck and no heaters, extra filters or anything.
I guess I'll give it a shot.
Also what are you doing with the oil besides filtering it before it goes in the tank. I was thinking about running it through the processor and putting some heat to it to make sure it is dry.
The only problem I have run into is cold starts, but you don't have that issue in Florida!!! Its 5 degrees with the sun out where I'm at so I don't run ANY WVO unless I know the truck is'nt getting shut off for a while.

I have read many many of your post on various sites and I have learned a lot. I have been running WVO up here in Jersey since this past spring and no problems this far other than I have to heat up oil to filter it in cold months. I started out with the DSE and have now gotton into my own mixes and still experimenting. It is tough for me to keep up with the blending in the colder months but I do have a steady supply of oil and dont want to cut back.

Although things have been working well for me and I've passed on my experience to others, I recently heard from someone that showed me some disturbing injector pictures.
He runs a blend as I do, although his filtering is a little different. He uses a centrifuge, which should do a superior job of filtering. He just replaced all of the injectors in his 7.3. The ones that came out look real bad.
My truck is running fine, but I hope my injectors don't look like his.

I am aware of the risk and up here in jersey when it is cold I start up on front tank that is straight diesel and I let it warm up a few miles before switching to WVO. I also switch back to straight before I park it. I am just being safe and getting engine hot hoping to help from any problems

I run between 30 and 60 gallons a week through my van with the 80/20 mix and the winter(I use that term loosely here) 70/20/10 blend. I have been doing this for about a year with no problems. I have been looking into new injectors just for the HP kick, but other than that the big box is running fine.
My oil looks no worse during changes, has no different smell or anything.
It is going to be hard to really tell if the WVO is doing any slow damage because the van has 280k on it.
I topped off yesterday with WVO, and overfilled so I had no room for diesel or RUG. It was not happy at all today even after it warmed up Took 10 sec. to start, did not have the pep it felt like I didn't have the chip on it. I put 10% RUG in it this evening and within 20 miles, it was back to normal. Tomorrow I will put #2 in it to get the blend back to where I like it.
I love the WVO and am trying to convince people that it is the way to go.
By the way, I could not be doing this if it were not for this group. If any of you are ever down in the Keys, PM me ahead of time, and the filtered WVO is on me.

Where would you find a heater like that? Cuz that would help alot without having to buy a $4000 kit!!!

The heater I am getting is the vegtherm. Plantdrive makes it. From all my research, it is not a way around a full two tank wvo system.
I am just hoping to cut back on my #2 a little. It is going to just heat the wvo before the filter and fuel pump. It does not solve the issue of unheated fuel at startup and cold fuel in the injectors. I will not keep the oil hot up to the block in cold weather.
Ideally, I would run a two tank system, but mounting locations on the van and costs have moved that way down the list. I really did not want a tank inside the van.

Thats true, at least your fuel pump will appreciate it though.
