wvo/rug/wmo

Hi All, new to this section, just finished repairs on f250 6.9 1985 purchased about a couple of months ago, ran the engine on 95/5 wvo/rug yesterday for approx 30 min. it ran great. I was surprised to say the least after all I had to do to get the engine running. (repaired cracked block at block heater, replaced starter solonoid, replaced all injector o rings, some several times since this is my first diesel experience, replace glow plugs, 7 out of 8 bad, bypassed the controller with a manual switch. now I read about someone using wmo (waste motor oil?)
I have several hundred gallons of used oil from air compressors, it seems to be about 20wt and extremely clean, have been using this in a heating stove I made last year. Can anyone give me info on all of this, mixture, ration, filtering etc.
thanks in advance
Bob

Re: wvo/rug/wmo

30 minutes is nothing. Problems with WVO/RUG can take about a thousand miles to show up.

I'm not a fan of using WMO in engines, with the issues of dissolved metals going through the injectors to emissions due to burning oil in the first place turned me off right there.

With all the work you've put into getting your 6.9 up and running, I'd be reticent to run that through your engine.

It's your decision, but I heartily recommend biodiesel.

Re: wvo/rug/wmo

It will run well at that mix as I said. Add some fuel lines to the system so it helps get it hot before injection. When I ran UMO I dumped at most 5 gal per tank. At under 5 gallons smoke isnt as noticeable and people dont think your rigg needs a new ring job . I was always hesitant at mixing anything over 5 gallons anyway

Re: wvo/rug/wmo

I have been running used trans fluid at almost 75-100% for 10000 miles now and no issues whatsoever other than it smokes a little bit here and there. Swap back to diesel just to make sure no other reason for the smoke then back to trans fluid.

Re: wvo/rug/wmo

well i been around diesels sence i was a kid and it was allways comon pratice around the older guys to filter umo after an oil change and pour it into the tank. i dont know how many miles on one truck... i have only had my current 9.6 for a year so its had 2 oil changes worth of umo into the wvo tank. i also had a chevy 6.2 and i did the same thing with that. but i dont have a constant supply of umo and never had i only use it after an oil change. when i was a kid all the older guys never put umo into the power strokes. there was only one around when i was growing up. but they said it was a strong truck but couldnt deal with umo atf or anything. the navistars will eat anything up if you de-water it and filter it.

Re: wvo/rug/wmo

I added UEO to my diesel tank for the first time two years ago. I accumulate the oil from oil changes in our cars, my E350, my racing motorcycles, and other equipment.

It's not a lot, but it's a nice suppliment. My personal experience is that my engine runs smoother. Might be from the extra lubrication in the fuel system, might be from the extra BTU's, I don't know.
