www.greasepits.com

I decided to make a mention of the site in a separate thread, at the risk of bad Netiquette.

This is a site I created to help folks find potential WVO "fillup" places when making trips outside their home area. There are no commercial interests in involved.

The site asks for your street address, zip code, and email address now, and some info about your fuel. No names are disclosed.

Street address and zip code are used for searching... email addresses are then used by users to make contact on their own.

It's my attempt at continuing to give a little back.

www.greasepits.com
I encourage everyone to check it out, and encourage others to do the same when they see posts of "hey, is there anyone I can get oil from in _________ ?

Re: www.greasepits.com

Halitosis I like your attempt.

What I don't like about disclosing a street address and zip is the possible attention it might draw to...ummm let's say politicians, code enforcement, jealous neighbors etc.

Without doing anything illegal by making Bio Diesel the nature of producing it requires having X-amounts of highly explosive/toxic Methanol/Lye stored in a residential area and for me is reason enough already not to actively talk about this kind of project (including not disclosing my address).

I sometimes wonder what certain authorities think when they are frequenting this and other boards....well maybe I don't even want to know...I'm sure contents of discussion boards have played part to restrict "things" and will continue to do so.

Just thought I would throw that in so you don't get an unwanted visit by the EPA.

Re: www.greasepits.com

I do like the idea as well, but the politician thing certainly sings a tune that hurts my ears.

I think I saw somewhere before that according to the IRS one could produce 400 gallons / quarter / person in the household without paying taxes, though I have not verified.

Re: www.greasepits.com

i work in code enforcement, and don't see any problems with making biodiesel in a residental area, think about it we drive the most fuel efficent trucks, and want to save money and the planet? people race cars and store race fuel in a resdient? but yes i'm not so sure i'd give info out? Re: www.greasepits.com

h2odrx: You probably have a good attitude because you are using the stuff and thank you for that...but the real issue is still there. I believe the opposition comes from a bigger source pushed by a lot of BIG money. Once something becomes a law, then you would have no choice -- by accepting the job you would be required to enforce it, or make your views known to management and move on to something else. At this point I don't hide what I'm doing, but I do take care not to leave stuff within casual viewing either. I have considered trying to get a group together and rent something in a non-residental area but so far nobody has even taken me on offers to show them a working system & help out getting established. Not complaining, just thought there would be more interest in this area/location. Sorry for the long post. Anyway, I also think the idea of wvo location is a good one, but I wouldn't want my info avaliable either..

we have the most freedom in the world. for the time being.

Re: www.greasepits.com

Ok... so maybe I drop the reference to Biodiesel and make it just a WVO site. (That's easy enough... all I gotta do is change that front text).

Does that still mean that address info is a sticking point? If I made it so that just a zip code and state were collected for searching, would that alleviate the hesitations involved? (This means the site is nothing more than an email-to-zip code/state match site).

I personally would love to see this project grow some legs... as I haul my camping trailor all over the place, and the frappr maps that have shown up are not a scalable solution. (Put 100 locations on the map, and it becomes unreadable).

Re: www.greasepits.com

Halitosis something along the line you suggested in your last post - due to the naivety of some people it would be good for those people to have their identity protected.
IF somebody needs BD I think it would be best to contact the person on a private basis (email?)

Re: www.greasepits.com

One note to think about. In some states just running anything other than fuel bought at a gas station is viewed as trying to get around state road taxes, thus 'illegal' tax evasion.
