03 No start. Thoughts needed.

2003, 140k on clock. Bought new. Had a ecm flash early on and one injector replaced under warranty. Has been a beast since!

Had a 800 mile trip planned and found the trucks batts were dead (someone left key on). Charged batts and moved truck to shop to check fluids and tires. I decided to wash off the top of both batts as they were kinda funky. Truck sat about 2 hours before trying to move it into the shop.

It started but spit and sputtered like it was out of fuel but would rev and maintain rpm with no issue. ?? Took newer truck on trip. Got back and started in on the rough run issue. Thought something had got wet but after sitting under a heater and blowing out any connections near the battery I am not thinking moisture is the issue.

After a google search for "no start 6.0 powerstroke" I remembered being a member here. LOOOOOOOOOTS of reading later here I am asking for help.

I leaned toward glow plugs after deciding that moisture wasnt the cause. Glow plugs and GPCM (Cali emmisions) all check out. Ruled out glow plugs.

Frame mounted fuel pump is about 1 1/2 years old and was replaced as a unit from Ford. Old one vibrated and howled something fierce. Fuel system all checks out. Nice flow and pressure and new filters.

Next I decided to look at the oil pressure gauge during cranking (read here to give it a look). Anyway it takes a looong time for the gauge to move and when it does the engine cackles a few times but never starts. Oil level is as it should be.

Has my ICP took a puke? HPOP fitting split it pants (revs good at high rpms so maybe)? Crank/cam sensor lost their mind?

I have no scanner to look for codes with so I am at the mercy of just tossing parts at it.

Any thoughts are GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Start here...I have heard that you can get the Torque or DashBoss app for your smart phone... Then see if you can pull any codes? I would suspect bad or low batts took out your FICM, but would only be speculation on my part... Throwing parts at a 6.0 or any diesel for that matter would be an expensive adventure to say the least...We need codes first...BTW, read thru bismic's no start sticky at the top of the page...b

I unplugged the ICP and tried to start the truck. Nothing!!

Should I now remove the ICP and take a pressure reading, then hook my shop air to it and listen for leaks?

I feel I have a HPOP problem so that is the direction I am heading.

I will also take a voltage reading on the correct pin inside the FICM while I have it loose from its mountings.

MANY THANKS!!!

Go by one of the parts chain stores ADV or Autozone and pick up a ScanGuage2/around $160.00 bucks. Then get on the ScanGuage site and program in the specific x-guages for the 6.0 Take your time , you'll get the hang of it. Come back here and post icp pressure, icp voltage, ipr%, ficm voltages/cold start and running.... It will also pull codes as well. We can then help you out...b

You are probably correct in your feelings on the high pressure system being the issue. Pull your IPR and look for metal shavings or a collapsed screen on the end of the valve. If that is present your pump came apart internally. You would need a pump, IPR, and another oil change.
