03 P2285 then P0264 code - rough idle now

New poster here so be gentle.

2003 F250 6.0 (natch) 93K miles, stock. The truck threw a P2285 about 2-3 weeks ago and started surging. I have found that code and problem is indicative of an ICP getting fouled with oil and failing. It also threw a P2287 but that stopped in short time.

To add to all this, and I think it might be related, my passenger front door (Crew cab) was thinking it was open when closed and closed when open. So the dome light, and possibly various other circuits, were on when they should have been off.

With the door switch I had noticed my starting getting slower and more labored, sounding like a dying battery(ies). One day after a long weekend the truck would not turn over. The indicators on the dials all went to their end limits and stayed there for a bit. I cleaned the terminals, charged the batteries and bypassed the door switch (made it think it is ALWAYS closed).

When I started the truck back up, it started running very rough. The P2285 code was still there but now there was a P0264! I thought, again, a coincidence. But I did not like the rough running. I would clear the code and the P2285 was consistent but the P0264 was not. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Today I had the dealership replace the ICP module as that was a common and it was still surging through the rough idle. Well it still idles, and runs, rough. The P2285 is gone but the P0264 is still there. It DOES feel like a cylinder is missing.

I have been reading about the FICM module does not like power changes. Could my deadish batteries cause something like this in the FICM where it just affects ONE injector. Might it require 'simple' reprogramming from the dealer?

Any ideas and insights are appreciated.

Thanks!

P0264 is injector circuit low on cylinder #2. I am doubting it is the whole FICM with just one injector showing bad but stranger things have happened.

And yes, low battery power can kill your FICM. But usually, you will get more codes than that if it is bad....

Is there any way to reset the FICM by maybe disconnecting the grounds from both batteries for x number of minutes? When I cleaned the posts I ensured that I did one battery at a time to preserve power.

Here is the latest update. We took the truck to a local diesel shop (also the only one). We checked the batteries and found that one was bad. A load test would take the battery down to about 9v then it would float back up. We took them back to Sears (DieHard SUV batts) as we had one month left on our 3 year full replacement. I thought I would give it a try.

Sears did not find anything wrong, naturally. I tried to explain the fact that this is for a diesel and they cannot withstand a drop as low as a gas vehicle. Not much help, they have their guidelines to follow. I decided not to fight anymore and got 2 new batteries. I left the old ones there for the manager to look at as he is the only one that can authorize a replacement for one that did not test 'bad'.

I took the new batts to the shop. They called the next day in the AM and said the truck was done. I was amazed. They said that started up the truck with the new batteries it was still running rough but after a short drive it was running just fine! The code was cleared and did not show up again. He checked all wires, etc that would be related but it was good. It cost me 2 hours labor for all that.

I then got a call from Sears and they stated that one battery dropped to 10V overnight with no load. They said they would replace that one battery under full replacement. So I was refunded the purchase price of that battery. WoW! I took the old good battery home and will put in our El Camino.

The total cost was right at $300.

All in all I have learned that it appears the FICM (and probably other components) do not like low voltage situations. Also that sometimes social engineering does work.

Thanks for this venue to ask questions and pass on information.
