'04 6.0 wont start when warm

A friend of mine has an '04 6.0 with 96K on it. 2 yrs ago it had similar symptoms to what it is doing now. When he took it to Ford 2yrs ago they ran diagnostics and replaced the MAF and ICP. He took it to Ford again this week and told them to check it out. Ford claims they cannot find anything wrong with it.

Symptoms:
When the truck is warm, such as driven for several minutes and then turned off, it will NOT start for several hours. However, if the fuel filter is removed for a second and then placed back in the system, the truck will start. Our thoughts are that its a sensor gone bad again. This has caused my friend to be stranded a few times. He is a diesel mechanic for CAT and is very knowledgeable with Diesel engines and could easily fix his truck if he had the software to diagnose what sensor etc is faulty.

Ford has also told him the truck is out of warranty due to the 5yr expiration from date of purchase that was five years about 2 months ago. Now, they are trying to charge him for running diagnostics and not finding any issues. Obviously the truck has an issue as he's been stranded. When he bought the truck, the salesman assured him that with the lawsuits between Ford and Navistar, all PSD warranties for the 6.0's where honored to 100K despite the 5yr criteria. I have not heard that before, but either way, this is a pre-existing condition IMO and should be covered. However, he's not as concerned about the waranty as much as he is with getting his truck on the road again!

I suggested he take it to a different dealer but that is not why I'm posting this on here. Im hoping that one of the many techs etc on here might shed light on what the possible problem is since Ford has not found anything.

Thanks!

Muddin

He has also replaced the fuel filters twice in the last 200 miles thinking that might be the issue since it acts like its not getting fuel when it wont start.

Any suggestions?

high pressure oiil leak air test this is done at the icp sensor also is it a early or late build early biuld the icp sensor is at the pump late the icp is in the right hand valve cover at the glow plug module if it is the late build look at the orings on the stand pipe remove valve cover and high pressure oil rail the stand pipe will have orings and may be cut also you close the ipr with a scan tool or a test wire and a 9v battery

Thanks man!

I will pass the info on! I talked to the local Ford dealer today and he confirmed that what ever the salesman told my friend about the 5yr contingency not being in effect, is incorrect. So, his warranty is in fact expired.

I will let ya know what we figure out after checking what you suggested!
