04 runs like a pig until warm...

Okay, I just read the multiple posts and different results from changing nearly everything...Same as the last post, WX just started to get cooler and my F350 6.0 TD is a pig for 2 blocks, then runs great all day with or without a load. Had new flashes last year (is there more out there), shows no codes when checked (of course)... could just let it warm up for 15 minutes but I know that's bad for the EGR, so I was wondering about the EGR delete set up and intake cleaner. Anyone had any luck or know of that system? I will get a list of everything that has been done to update...

Thanks, this forum is a life saver, especially if you go into the dealer with a clue what your talking about. Saved me alot when I dropped the money for my new HP pump...sucks that my truck was stolen right after, insurance doesn't care what receipty you have:-(

Dave

Mine did the samething and the dealer changed the FICM. After that all has been good and that was 25000 miles ago.

Mine has the same problem, it's going into Ford tomorrow to get the FICM tested and replaced if needed. I have checked everything I can, sounds like the output voltage frome the FICM is what causes this problem. Make sure your batteries are good under load test.
Not sure if you have a block heater on yours, but when I plug mine in overnight I don't have any problems taking off.

Several posts across all the forums warning that FICM's can be damaged also by bad alternators - even when the batteries have tested good.

I chuckled to myself when I read you were in Avondale and you said the WX had just started to cool off. It's down in the eighties, huh Dave? (I'm in Safford) Well enuff kidding, I hope you figure out your truck . Later

Mine has been doing the same thing, plus puking coolant out the de-gas bottle. I took it in for warranty repair on Monday and got the news today that yes they will cover it, but one stage at a time. The first problem was a bad FICM and EGR cooler. Funny, they replaced the alternator in January as it took a dump. Thankfully it will all be covered under the extended warranty, but they are thinking the headgaskets may be bad also so they are probably going to be doing that while they are in there. The service writer said that it would be no problem to have the ARP studs used instead and they recommend it when they go this far into the motor.

I had the same rough mornings and took it in. I had a bad FICM and now it works fine. I recently went out of warranty so I did the EGR cooler delete and I have had NO more water related issues, such as overheating, loss of water, no puking and it runs cooler and better.

Dealer confirmed today that FICM and EGR cooler are bad, but they have to have them replaced then test again tomorrow (Saturday) to verify if any other issues. Hopefully not, but I am betting oil cooler and head gaskets still to come. I should get it back by Wenesday of next week (hopefully)!
