Where are you at here in OR? The guys at Mock's in Grants Pass are pretty good, if you're looking for a dealer recommendation.

You may also consider looking on line. There are a few shops where you ship your old turbo to them and they rebuild it and ship it back. This has become a relatively large business with so many cars and trucks with turbos.

Question

We put some oil into it and fired it up while holding the compressor wheel and the engine actually sounds like it's running ok.

We're pulling the turbo as I type. Took the intercooler pipes off, and found lots of oil pooling in the intercooler intake. Not seeing any metal bits, but on turbo, the compressor wheel is as loose as a whore in vegas.

SO my question is, if the oil is the only thing that got into the intercooler, then are we looking at having to replace that? Or get the oil out at the least?

Thanks again for the great advice.

So after some research apparently this is covered under the ca emissions 770 warranty!?!

Why did ford not just know that in the first place?? I even had to argue with them about it until they conceded.

Once I get all this work done I'm considering going with the duramax... I've had nothing but mistreatment by ford and it's dealers since I bought this truck!!

I miss my 7.3

I would be pissed at the dealership instead of ford for mistreatment.

FWIW I had a turbo "gum-up" at 90xxx miles and went to a local ford DS for a solution. Well the service manager was nothing but a ****y, ignorant SOB. When I mentioned that I have gauges and described the funky boost and had a good hunch it was sooted up, this guy starts accusing me of having a chip and this and that and if I bring it in they will void my warranty. I let him rant for a few, ended up walking out. The next day I head to the BIG dealership. Talk to the lead tech describing the same things. He says "yup sounds like youll need a new turbo, how about if I order it right now and just drop your truck off in a few days". Nothing but polite professional service and he didnt even look at the truck.

Yeah at first I was pissed at the dealer then I went directly to ford who told me that "no such warranty exists". What kind of organization have they become? If I hadn't persisted they would have left me in the lurch for a $3,000 turbo job on a lemon 6.0. Now I have to try to get my money back on the injectors that went out on this POS. Apparenty the "fuel injecton system" is also covered... They'll probably try to tell me that the fuel injectors aren't part of that "system".

I've never had problems with ford. They've always been good to me. But the past few dealings with some of their dealerships and now with them directly has made me consider - eek - a chevy. Seems like that duramax/Allison combo is working out very well...

You guys are getting me worried now about the 03 I just bought. Can someone describe 'why' the oil line pops off and is there a verified fix? My other turbos on my Porsches are all hard piped with threaded fittings, no way they can just 'pop' off like that without dropping oil pressure to zero and triggering a light.

Thanks

well just to be clear nothing was out of place attatched to the turbo. What a local turbo specialist said was something like that the reman turbo that had been put in was probably slightly imperfect and my turbo surged which in turn heated it up to the point the turbo wheel expanded then scraped the housing and eventually stopped while the compressor wheel was stilltrying to spin and it snapped the spindle attached to the bearing... I probably am not remembering it right. But his advice? Sink the ship. He gets about 2-3 people a week calling him on these 6.0's. He basicaly said if I replace it, it's going to have to be a reman which will probably go out again in a year or so... He suggested trying to buy a new turbo but there is a 12 week waiting period for the oem turbo... And they don't release parts for turbos until 5 years after first year of production which basically ensures you have to go through ford to get parts. Basically a big sh1tty monopoly...
