04s and aftermarket

If a guy was to buy one of these 04 6.0L trucks that sounds OK and seems to have power and no unusual smoke........ then tosses in the aftermarket oil cooler and EGR cooler with bigger passages, do they become a good motor ??? or are these problems just the tip of the iceberg ??

The early trucks (with the round EGR cooler) do not seem to have the concerns that the later trucks do.

Good question.... thats what I did. I bought an 05 F350 4x4 crew cab with 69K miles on her. I upgraded the EGR cooler and added the Bullet Proof Diesel Engine Oil Cooler upgrade because I had heard bad news about the Ford OE version of both these products. Driving around in Phx.... outside temp is ~105°, my oil temp shows 170-180°. Droving home from a buddies house the other night, the outside temp was about 85° and mostly downhill. Oil temp stayed at about 140° until I mashed the engine on the freeway....

Your real question is in regards to the pattern failures of the 6.0L. At the bulletproofdiesel.com site they have a set of "installation instructions" that talk all about these common failures and how they are addressed. You may want to start there for some insight.

Their stuff looks good, but it's got a pretty heavy price tag to go with it. It would be nice to find some kind of discount for it.
