Have a 05 f350 automatic 6.0 with 5000 mile. About 4 weeks ago I started hearing a fluttering noise under the hood (driver side). This noise mostly happens went engine is cold and I punch it and let off the gas. I took the truck in to the dealer they kept it overnight (they said because of a busy day). I was told by the dealer that ford know about this problem and for now ford is calling the noise normal. Any one else know of this problem. (The noise is from a air intake will a butterfly valve or something like that)
Welcome to the board It's a turbo fart. Back pressure builds up and has no where to go except back wards thru the air intake. Notta thing to do.Nature of the beast

There is no butterfly valve in the intake of most diesel Fords. Some have it but it can be removed without harming your truck (the dealer will not agree).

It is normal. They all do it. some louder than others. Aftermarket air filters and exhaust make it a lot louder.

I'm not trying to get smart with you here- but the info I have been able to gather- and I follow it religiously- is that you aren't supposed to "punch it" when the engine is cold. We all have paid big $$$ for our trucks, and although we all expect them to earn their keep, these engines have quirks we have to accommodate to keep 'em running. I have been told to start the truck cold, let the oil pressure come up, and then run it gently (1800 rpm and below) until it warms up.
I have also encountered the "turbo fart." I know this engine does it, but it CAN'T be good for it. I have managed to avoid this by keeping the rpm's up considerably higher than my '02 7.3L. The 6.0 likes to rev higher, and it doesn't seem to hurt it- with my hand-shaker, it is taking some getting used to.

Every 6.0 I have driven have this, Turbo fart, noise. Ford has no rework for it yet and is probably not working on anything either.

Silly observation, but mine used to do it a lot more when I had a bad ebp sensor.
After it was changed, it's not nearly as loud (the fart) or as often.
No flash between observations.

Why would my Excursion never do it in 18 months and 13,000 miles then start last week? Something changed. It is in the shop now and the service manager says it is normal and showed me the TSB. Mine NEVER did it until there was no boost after a cold start for about 15 miles and had no power. When it returned to normal I have the fart noise. I vote this is BS from Ford. The tech says he will do his best to eliminate it.
Ford is saying everything is "normal" if they don't have a fix for it. My truck has several issues including surging idle, shudder on acceleration, fuel in oil and Ford tells me this is "normal". Never mind the fact I did not have the shudder or the surge until AFTER the first time it was reflashed!
Ford's "normal" basically equals NO WARRANTY!

One PRETTY truck UPDATE: Truck is still performing poorly, though it is better since the last reflash that removed the EBP sensor inputs. Has definately been the worst truck I've owned in my 30 years driving Fords.
They called me this afternoon and got it to duplicate the full power loss and loud burping noise. They are replacing the turbo assembly. My fingers are crossed.
