I started plowing this past week and have found that there is a 1-1.5 second delay until the R is fully enganged. I am told by some that it is normal to ensure that the tranny is not getting clunked. It feels like it is 1/2 catchning, then it fully enganges. Ideas?
I want to be proactive about it should it be something i can fix before it grenades.
Let me know thoughts.
Andy

My bet is a Line Pressure Control Solenoid in the tranny. My truck had a similar problem where there would be a delay going from park to drive, park to reverse, reverse to drive, or drive to reverse. After the few seconds of delay my tranny would bang into gear. Had it replaced about 30,000 miles ago and has been working fine since.

Out of curiosity - how did they diagnose that issue?? I would like to take a closer look at it.

When was the last time the tranny was flushed and the external filter changed?
I haven't changed the fluid yet - i am trying to determine the best way to do so. I hear they have to heat the fluid in order to get it all... now i'm contemplating dropping the pan. The external was replaced 1k ago.
The part # they changed in my Trans is

Thanks for the post - very informative. I removed the superchips and thinking of throwing it in the garbage can. It seems to help the 'lazy shift' symptoms, but is still present.

If you've never flushed the tranny and you have 98,000 miles on it, you are living on borrowed time. Every 30,000 is the requirement.
Fluid looks and smells new. I bought the truck 10k ago. My shop concluded the same thing. I am trying to figure out if i should flush or drain the pan at this point.

Only a hot flush gets 100% of the fluid. At a min. drain the pan and change the app. 8 qts. that you will get and do it again every 5,000 miles 3 times. Hot flush is the best however. If you go the drain method, change the filter each time. Smell doesn't tell you if the additives and detergents have not broken down.

When mine does that it is not fully in reverse. My shifter has some extra play in it and I have to move it just a tad to be in reverse. And dont freak out about the trans flush. Me and my buddies all have torque shifts in our trucks and we get 200-300k with NEVER flushing the trans and we tow cars all day.
