Hey ford doc's,
I have a january 05 but I noticed on what i think is the fcim an international sticker with eng#100 122204. Does this mean I have an o4 engine? If so is it built to 05 specs? I am wondering if i have the updated EBP,EGR, Flashes ect. I sure would like to know. Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Since an '04 6L won't fit in an '05 F-series Super Duty thanks to, among other things, a relocated steering gear, I don't think you have anything to worry about in that respect. A 12/04 engine build is well after the 07/04 start of 2005 model year engine production.

I find that difficult to believe. I'll bet my 6.0L block will fit in the 03, 04, 05, and 06 SuperDuty trucks. I'll also bet my block will fit in 99 - 03 as well (motor mounts may have to be tweeked). Now there *might* be a slight change in location of accessories, such as alternators, PS pumps, and AC compressors. But come on now... Ford isn't going to change the engine to accomodate a new steering gearbox.
Finding an 04 built engine in an 05 truck is nothing new. Same thing happened between the 03 and 04 model trucks as well. Whether or not you got the specific changes for 05 remains to be seen. It all depends on when the switch over was made. For the 03 to 04 models, I believe the magic date was Sept 29th. So 04 trucks made prior to that date, actually got the pre-04 engine, and those made afterwards got the 04 engine revisions. Same, I'm sure, is happening here. That's why it doesn't pay to be the first one in line in most cases.
Don't forget about the physical differences between '04 and '05. I would agree that the updated front end may cause fit problems that don't exist between '03 and '04.

Bare block, it'll fit in an '05. Complete assembly, won't fit. Steering gear runs into the '03/'04 water inlet on the front cover. PM me for the address to send the cashier's check. Now, on the Excursion and Econoline, they're still using the '04-style front cover assembly (Econoline is even using the same part number, Excursion is only slightly different but enough to have its own part number). But the Excursion didn't get the front end changes the F-Series got.
As far as fitting in a '99-'03, you're looking at different mounts, radiator, charge air cooler, fan/fan shroud, overflow bottle, air induction assembly, at least the driver's side battery tray, heat shields & sound insulation panels, and damn near all the wiring in the front half of the truck.

If the truck has the '05 frame and front suspension, it will have an '05 engine. If it has the '04 frame and front suspension, it's not an '05, then, is it?
