Hi guys,
I was just leaving for a little vacation with my trailer in tow 9800# enclosed. I noticed when coming to a stop I heard a screech and flutter like a waste gate?. I drove a bit further then noticed I had no boost then the boost was going up and down. I stopped the truck and took off again no boost then heard a lot pop and then could hear a lot of air noise. I pulled the truck over and checked the engine and found that the inercooler hose on the drivers side under the air filter housing had a hole in the top of it. has anyone had this happen and know the cause. I don't think fixing the hose is the whole problem but the result of the real problem. Thanks any help on this. This is about the truck in my sig.

The MAP sensor gone bad? Never heard of one going up, but if you had no boost, it is unlikely for a CAC tube to spontaneously blow out. I am thinking that the MAP or somthing monitoring the MAP went up and stopped telling the PCM what the boost was. This created overboost, and pop went the CAC tube. Could also be sticking vanes, but that still would have registered on the boost Gauge.

Is this one of the trucks that has the black plastic driver's side CAC tube instead of the metal one with black rubber couplers? If so, I've had a few that popped in the area below the air filter. Sometimes they can be attributed to an interference between the CAC tube and the support for the air filter. Once a little hole is rubbed in it, the tube rips along one of the lines of the bellows. Make sure the replacement tube has a bit of clearance all the way around it - the width of your index finger is fine...
I had a similar issue. Replaced both of my hoses on my '03 6.0, didn't help much with boost($150 for both hoses, ouch!). Then took a trip and blew my intercooler off. That was the problem. Dealer fixed it and replaced my turbo too, said it wasn't working right. They never explained why it wasn't, but may be an issue with the turbo.
Took the truck to the dealer on friday 7/20 and they got it right in and checked it out. I did have a plastic pipe which was replaced with a metal one with the heavy rubber end. They also updated all the programs on pcm,tcm and ficm. Also adjusted coolant level and new level sensor sticker. It did have a P0299 wehich was caused by the hole in the hose. Have not towed with it yet ran good on the way home. The tech who worked on it flagged 6.9 hours labor on it. Thanks for all the information on this. Steve

Just a update on my truck. I went to the race track this past friday with the truck and trailer for a test and tune and on the way home the check engine light came on. It's at the dealer waiting for a new turbo charger. From what I have read and was told there is a bullentin for a upgraded turbo to prevent this (sticking vanes over under boost) from happening? I hope this is it. I have missed two of my car events because of this and have another event soon. Thanks for reading. Steve

hey! SRB442, have them check the iat2 sensor for carboned up. it will interfere w/ pcm communication w/ egr & related sensors. if it isn't still under warr. then clean it yourself. pcm cannot read proper intake air temperature causing smoking & surging & sometimes will not set a code. found out alot about this on our ford tech time plus episodes. been cleaning them for quite some time now. I was unable to get to call before the truck was done. They installed a new turbo and it seems to run good. Won't know for sure until I pull my trailer again. Thanks for the advise. Steve
