I appreciate your input, Rich.
And I can see where FMC wants to void warranties, too.
The truck is going to a dealer today, one here in Spokane that has given good service before.
One of the main reasons that I buy diesel is for longevity. If the truck doesn't have that, I may go looking for a V-10 Gasser. I'd (and I know this may sound nuts) rather spend more on gas than sit on the side of the road.
Having to fight FMC is also something I'm not interested in. On the other hand, I spent my money, good money, on a product that is touted as "the best". It's not, to me.

Let us know how it turns out!

Sorry again about your trip it always suck having any kind of vehicle that you depend on for your vacation ruin it. I understand your frustration with the 6.0, but by looking at my sig you can see that I have had 4 6.0 and never had the slightest problem with any of them. I also want to mention that I have never bought a used one. Everybody knows that 03 was the worst year of the 6.0 but the other day I was at my friends shop and this guy brought in his 03 dually 6.0 welding truck in that had over 457,000 miles on it and the only thing that he has done was change a water pump. I am not to sure that the 6.0 are the problem. I wonder why there are so many people having problems with them, but you have me that every 6.0 that I have had has been chipped right off the show rrom floor and I use the crap out of mine. I am also an avid hunter so I do some pretty hard core off road. My motto when it comes to hunting is if you say you can't make it there in a truck then you have never seen me before. Don't give up on the 6.0 get you another one. DO the diesel maintenance, clean the egr vlv and take care of it mechanically and I think that you won't have any problems.
90% of the dodges and chevy's are on the road today the other 10% made it home!!!!!!!

Hey DieselDoc-
Thanks a ton for the info.
Trucks at Gus Johnson Ford in Spokane right now, and I'm certain they'll fix whatever's ailing it. I've going to keep the truck, at least for one more try....hoping no more troubles.
Again- thanks to you & the rest that posted. Sorry to vent so loud but just REALLY pissed off last night when I got home.
If that dealer doesnt work out bring it over to Fugate ford in Enumclaw, WA great service and I'd say 80-90% of their servicing is diesel's, its a farming hick town. They treat me really good there, once put an EGR valve in my 04 in 20 minutes while I waited one morning
Every year model of the 6.0L has issues. Injector issues when the 6.0L came out probably does keep the '03 year model at the top of the list but aside from the early injector issues, is there any documented proof stating the '03 models have a higher repair rate than other year models? Just curious.
I have an 03 with 51K on it as I type. I continue to have the bell housing leak but much of that is due to my procrastination. The truck ran/runs awesome and I didn't want them to mess with that. I reluctantly just got the latest re-flash. Thankfully, my mileage increased 0.2MPG and start-ups come with power right off the bat. Tow haul mode is water down a little when you take your foot off the gas but what can I say. Even with the bell housing leak/stain, I have much respect for the truck I got.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune with your trucks incredillion. I would have been pissed off too.

Again, appreciate the comments.
Aside from the engine issues, the F-250 is one GREAT truck.
Last year, in November, we had a good snow, and I was plowing. Plowing for me is 7oo pounds of sand in the back, a 960 pound Blizzard Plow in the front, and a 600 pound rear mounted "Snowman" plow on the back.
Anyways.....
My neighbor calls me on my cellphone and tells me that a contractor he had at his house went off the road on the way down the hill. (We live on a mountain). I told him I'd try to get him out.
When I got there, the stuck truck was another older model F-250. It was over the edge of the hill, closest part of the truck to the road was about 8 feet down, and it was steep. The truck was about to roll.
Our road was really icy, bad enough to where you had to hold onto the truck to stand.
I put chains on the front tires.
Hooked a chain onto the left hand (front)hook, and hooked the other end onto the guys frame.
I got in my truck, saw the guy wave his hands, thinking this meant "go ahead", I hit the gas and basically ripped him up and over the side of the hill back onto the road!
Now, here's the really cool part....
My neighbor comes running up to me, taking pictures. He says; "man, that's a hell of a truck you got!" I said thanks, and he looks at me and says:
DID YOU KNOW THAT HE WAS STILL IN PARK?!!!
I didn't know it, at all.
Cool or what? You tell me.
I am in same situation with only 12K on my truck, totally let us down on trip to Sturgis this year, towing only the bikes in a 7x14 featherlite box. Thankfully due to my previous life as mechanic was able to bandaid it there and with help from banks on a free retrofit, was able to limp home after the rally. Problem still exist with all modifications completely removed, and I originally installed the banks for exact same reasons you listed.
When the motor was running OK, it was great. Now when pulling hills while towing, the turbo starts to change pitch, then overboosts, obviously soon to blow head gaskets between the 4 bolt sealing pattern(no comment). Even though I could duplicate to Ford, it generates no error codes so they say there is nothing that can be done about it unless it fails completely. Yeah Right, on what vacation do I want to risk this? I don't think so.
Good luck to you, I am going to another product too, and hate doing so, as it is the last thing I wanted.

03 F250 6.0 4WD FX4 Crew Cab SB, multiple failures at less than 12K miles. Sold it.
I am really blown away by all of this. I just can't believe it. Either I am one very very lucky guy when it comes to 6.0 or you guys are very unlucky. As you can see again by my sig I have had numerous 6.0. Not one not one time have I ever had one sigle problem with any of my engines. In fact let me tell you why I have had so many trucks. My first 03 7.3 (in my other post I said that I was hard on truck) I totally destroyed my front left hub in four wheel drive, didn't know it because it still worked all night long till I took in out of four wheel drive and it wouldn't go back in. Ok my 04 6.0 I have and Edge juice with Attitude on it. Had the peddle to the floor at every light, Totally smoked the tranny locked up all the clutches truck wouldn't even move. First 05 6.0 I twisted a front pinion, then a week after I got it back I broke a front axle, then a month after that I broke another front axle. Second 05 6.0 got some really bad fuel at Flying J here in Wy with the temp at about -15 and scored six injectors. Wasn't covered under warranty because it was contaminated fuel and they don't cover that under warranty. How would you like that something that you didn't have any control over bad fuel from a station and they won't fix $1200 worth of injectors. So I traded it in well I drove it on six bad injectors 600 miles to St. George UT. Then I got my 06 6.0 in December and have 32,000 miles on it and have not had one problem. So I am not sure what you guys are getting it blows my mind. Sorry so long.
I hope I never have that kind of luck. DON'T GIVE UP ON THE 6.0 THEY ARE GOOD TRUCKS.
P.S. Chevy and Dodge have all had there problems also just think back. They all have problems nothing is purfect. My out take on that.

I have seen alot of posts about the downside of changing your intake on these trucks. K&N seems to be one of the worst offenders. This engine really particular about getting clean air, and many have said they found debris on the wrong side of their K&N filter. Get your truck fixed, and go back to the (pain in the ass to change) stock filter. Don't skimp and buy a cheapie immitation, either- make sure it is the blue media Donaldson filter. I was told by a dealer that you can run one of those for 50K miles before changing.

Got truck back from Gus Johnson today.
It had another bad injector- and here's the amazing part.
In the Oasis writeup from Evergreen Ford in Issiquah, Washington, the mechanic wrote that the no. 3 injector had "intemittent failures".
Guess which injector died? You got it.
So, if we count the injectors bad, we're at 6, now.
If anybody ever needs a good shop to work on your truck in the Spokane area, Gus Johnson is THE ONE.
I put my '03 up for sale today and the first guy that pulled up asked "does it have a 6.0 or a 7.3?" I told him 6.0 and he said "thanks anyway", and drove off. I hope I'm not going to be stuck here....
As to intakes, the AFE on my truck is sold and installed at a lot of dealerships nationwide. I don't know much about the K&N, though.
I think I'm going to wait for maybe a month & see if I have more issues with this one.
Like I said before, it's the best truck on the market if you get rid of the engine issues.
Just remember chevy and dodge have all had there problems also. Dodge is still in the 18th centry. Maybe there smart or just can't keep up. They still have a throtle cable and a gear driven injection pump. There dinosaurs, but I am also a cummins master mech and I don' think that they are one of the most bullet proof diesel made. So I guess I just controdic myself a little. Dodges trucks will fall apart before the motor. Chevys wellll there chevy's come on guys. I would hate to get high centered on a man hole cover.
