06 Extended Factory Warranty?

I have an 06 F350 6.0 with 58k miles on it, bought new in Aug 05. Bone stock, no tuners or modifications. I am about 5 months out from hitting the 5 year 100k factory warranty. Is it worth it to spend the $1500-$2000 for the Ford 7yr/200k mi extended warranty, or invest that money in an EGR cooler upgrade kit, coolant kit & oil cooler kit. Other than a problem with exhaust gas smell which dealer installed exhaust manifold gaskets & y pipe the truck has been flawless. I have been meticulous on maintenance, always run a fuel additive, don't run it hard when it's cold, & try & keep the around town stop & go miles to a minimum. Love the truck, it runs like a champ!
Previous truck was an 01 7.3 that never had any problems. The 6.0 issues have got me concerned. Any advice is appreciated.

I've got the same year PSD, runs great no issues. I've decided not to invest in the extra warranty and invest the money in the truck. My rig has 31,000 miles on her and has been paid for for 18mo. I plan on running well beyond what any extended warranty will cover. After my warranty expires, oil cooler rebuild and studs. I've already got coolant and oil by-pass. My .02

I'd Pay For The Extended Warranty If I Were You....

Hey Man,

I just bought the 7 yr/200k mi warranty, and I'm glad I did. Thought LONG & HARD on this one. The first time I have a head gasket issue or oil cooler/EGR cooler issue or turbo issue--------the warranty just paid for itself!! For Me, the BEST OFFENSE is a GOOD DEFENSE I think I'm in a lot better situation to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. These 6.0s are awesome trucks, but the problems are well documented, and the repairs don't come cheap! Just my 2 cents!

Whatever price they quote you its the same deal as if your buying a car. they have wiggle room as far as profit goes so walk away from them a couple of times to get the price down.

thanks los - I knew there was haggle room, I am just trying to get an idea of how low folks are getting the dealers to go...$2100 is the lowest I've heard

I have to try and find the paperwork but I could have swore I got one of the ones down here in San Diego to $1800. I could be wrong. I went through all the trouble of haggling the price down and then found out I cant get mine covered due to it having a salvage title. Doh!

If your going to keep the vehicle past the 7yr extended warranty I would not do it. Why not use the money torwards studs and eliminate the most common issues? That's my plan and my .02.

I just bought it for 2100 two months ago. I have an 05 that was getting ready to go over 100k two months before its 5yr b'day. At 101,000 the connection on the HPOP went out. It was fully covered and I figure I am halfway to paying for the ESP. See myrecent post about "back on the road again"

I understand the 7/200 plan covers the common 6.0 issues like HG, EGR, turbo, etc. Anyone know if it covers stuff like the bed plate leaking. Mine is at the dealer for that now, and they have to pull the engine to fix it $$$$$. I am covered for now, but my warranty will expire in 5,000 miles. Thanks.
