Hey guys, I purchased a 07 - 6.0 f-250 about 6months ago and have put 22k on since. Cut out muffler & converter & installed S$B filter intake. Tow alot with it & looking for better fuel economy. Gets 17-19 Empty, 11 loaded-no matter if light or heavy.
Worried about possible problems with installing programmer due to bad rep of these 6.0's. Although I did have a 04--6.0 with 188k with 0 problems--just lucky i guess. Any advice would be welcome

You are getting GREAT MPG's. If you are looking for more, good luck.

This is great mpg ??!!! My 05 Dodge3500 gets 20 empty and 16-17 lightly loaded and 14-15 heavily loaded.I dont pull nearly as heavy a load with my f250. Maybe I made a bad choice in truck cause i was expecting better, heck ,the 04 i had WAS MUCH better.

I had an '02 Duramax 6 Speed Crew Cab that got about 1-2 mpg better empty but the same towing. My '05 F-250 was the same as my '07 F-350. I don't pay too much attention to mileage. I have owned trucks since I have been driving and this is just the way it has always been. It's not a Honda Civic. It's a 7900 lb truck.

First- the 6.0 doesn't do well with aftermarket intakes. All of the techs I have heard from on this site do not recommend this.
Second- go with your gut on the programmer. This engine does not do well with those, either. You are asking for trouble. I think Ford makes, by far, the best truck. But if you want one that burns rubber, you would be well-advised to hop up that Dodge of yours, and leave the Ford alone. Techs have been trained extensively to look for engine damage due to mods, and with all of the belt-tightening going on with 6.0 warranty changes you could suffer significant monetary damage. Techs also monitor this site, check your sig for a description of your truck and your location, and use that to sh*t-can your warranty. My truck has been relatively trouble free and it has done all I expect of it without modding. Good luck.

Off-topic question oilfield- I'm not much on mods, but I did build a race car many years ago. I was told that a full port and polish job was a waste of money on my Ford 460 unless I was going to build it to run really high rpms. Enlighten me- what does that do for a big displacement diesel? BTW, not trying to be a smartass, here, I'm genuinely curious.
