15W-50 Mobil One - Is it ok?

I have a 2006 Ford E350 Van with a 6.0 and Quigley 4x4 coversion. Decided to start doing my own maintenance on it and wanted to go with Mobil 1, as it seems to have good reviews. They did not offer the 15W-40 weight and they guy at Napa told me to go with the 15W-50, so I bought it. I went to look on the Mobil One web site and am not sure the 15W-50 is the right choice. Should I return it and get the 5W-40?

I use the Van as a daily driver, I tow with it and I road trip from CA to ID 6 or so times a year in it.

I know oil has been talked to death, but I did not come up with anything on a 15W-50 search. Thanks.

The 15w-50 is CD and CF rated. The 6.0 needs CH or CI or CJ. The 5w-40 is CJ so I would swap for that.

Mobil 1 15w50 is not a diesel oil. Exchange it for a quality 5w40 or 15w40 diesel oil w/ CI4+ or CJ4 rating.

The Mobil1 15w-50 is loaded with zddp more than modern oil formulations, and it's thicker than most OEM recommendations. So being a bit thick it pushes down fuel economy *slightly* and is only for warmer climates. I used it in my RX-7 in summertime, where high temps and fuel dilution are my reasons for using this higher viscosity oil. It's good oil, generally better performing than the OEM recommendations that compromise some performance and protection for better fuel economy and to make the cats last longer. I'm rambling. Notice that most of this discussion is about gasoline engines. This oil is primarily for gasoline engines.

I would recommend you exchange it for a diesel engine oil. Aside from the 15w-50 being too thick, it's not formulated for these engines. 5w-40 synthetic is a really excellent choice and Mobil1 makes some: Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40

I took it back and got the Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel oil. Thanks for all the responses. I swear, sometimes I don't know what I am thinking, listening to the little sh!t at Auto Zone.

mobil 1

i use fossil fuel Rotella in my truck. I used to used Mobil One in my race car that i haul with my F250. However after tearing the race motor down in the last year I have noticed an increase in cam lobe wear. Mobil 1 had recently changed their blend to be a "longer wearing" oil. However this change has proven to drastically wear out the cam lobes and rocker arms in our race engines. Hence we have switched to Elf or now known as Total synthetics. i have had no issues with my F250 in 35k miles running Rotella

Mobil1 decreased ZDDP in many of their oils. However, some of them (the new Mobil1 Racing in particular) have high ZDDP counts. Unlike many lubricant manufacturers they are quite clear about it:
Mixing Motor Oil to Reach the Right ZDDP Level for Classic Cars

Follow the link to the table.
