1750 RPM Rattle

First Post!

Glad to have found the site! What a great resource for diesel owners.

I just recently purchased the truck in my siganture. I currently have 57K miles on the odometer.

I have recently noticed that at 1750 RPM there is a rattle coming from under the truck. Maybe the turbo...not really sure. When I accel or decel past 1750-1900 RPM it goes away. Comes right back anytime I hit 1750 RPMs. Is this normal or an indication that a somehting is getting ready to fail? There are no other symptons present at this time.

BTW, I am competely satisified with this truck and its performance so far.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like you MAY have a harmonic in the exhaust system. 2003s had this a bunch, including mine. Ford came out with a new pedestal for the turbo and that fixed many. For mine I just added a tip to the exhaust which moved the harmonic down the RPM band to where I never noticed it.

Thanks Roy. I have not considered that the muffler may be causing the rattle (harmonic). I will check into that.

I failed to mention that truck does have an aftermarket exhaust (which I have yet to identify the mfg) and tip.

Guess I shold remove "stock" from my signature.

What is the easiest way to identify the mfg of the exhaust? I have looked up and down the exhaust and can't seem to find any indication of the mfg.

Thanks
