2003 6.0l dead

My 2003 6.0l is dead. It has been starting up rough, idling rough and cutting out when giving the gas for the past couple weeks, after you drive it for a few miles it will all clear up. It got to the point to where it wouldnt start. So after trying to start it up for a couple of days it finally started and I took it to a 6.0l mechanic. He started by changing out the icp, which was leaking out oil. This did not fix the problem so he suggested that I took it to ford to get the program flashed, I have a edge on it that has been cutting on and off for a couple of months now so we took it off before he changed out the icp. So I took it to the ford dealership and they hooked up the laptop and all 8 injectors were faulted out. After flashing the program the codes came back. I then left to go home and my truck broke down on me, so I got it towed back to the dealer. They then replaced the ficm and checked the codes and now only 2 injectors are alarming. The truck started but still not running right. They now suggest that all 8 injectors need to be replaced along with the hpop, I went to pick up the truck and it would not crank. They are saying that my hpop is creating metal shavings which is getting to the injectors. Does any of this sound true and what would you do. I will have around $6500 tied up if I do what they suggest. I just want it running so I can sale it.

If the HPOP is coming apart, then there would be alot of metal debris stuck in the screen at the end of the IPR. Knowing what IPR duty cycle is, and what pressure the ICP is seeing while cranking would help diagnose....

sorry the ipr did get replaced and they did show me some sort of screen that was filled with oil, do you think that the dealership checked pressures before determining that I needed a new hpop

They certainly should have. If the IPR screen was intact and not full of metal than the HPOP may not be coming apart. But it also could be, its tough to say. They certainly should have checked the pressures, and done an air leak test to determine if and where any air leaks in the HPO system are.

That metal screen is designed to catch any metal that might come from the HPOP, so if the screen is intact, I find it hard to believe that all 8 injectors have failed due to metal from the HPOP.

6.0l f250 loss of power

Ford dealership found out that the hp oil pump was bad. It was replaced and the truck ran good for a couple of weeks. Now the truck has a loss of power, over the past week the truck has only ran good for 1 out of 7 days. Any ideals why my truck has all the sudden lost power?

That's a little bit like telling the doctor you don't feel good and expecting him to know what is wrong.

More specifics could help.

You could have bad fuel, bad fuel filter, bad O-rings on the injectors, low fuel pressure, loose turbo hose, or a whole host of other issues.

Mike

More info please. When does the truck run bad? cold or hot? any certain speed? Boost or no boost? That kind of info.

Hi I had the same problem and the Ford dealer here was useless.....but after the fact I took it to my diesel mechanic and he fixed my problem...it was my intake sensor. I had a lack of power, when I would accelerate it would flat line, I had no passing gear but once you get it wound up it would be a bit better.
