I have boughtdozers, excavators and at least 6 trucks at auction, and all were about half of street cost and none ever let me down. Of course none of them had a 6.0 International exploder in them. Sure wish I came her before that auction. Since the 7.3 was so reliable, I never thought Ford would step down from that.

I would post a classified ad on this site for the truck as is. I'm sure a lot of people have a 6.0 engine and looking for a good body. I would think 3-4k. Maybe craiglist as well.

PUT A 7.3 OR A CUMMINS IN IT! that'll be a good deal, the miles arent high at all, so part out anything good on the 6leaker and get a cummins or 7.3, drop er in and let er rip!!! if you spend a few G more, its gunna be a much more reliable truck with a fresh motor, for the total price of what you will get a used truck and motor for, if not even cheaper than buying another one!

If he can't do it himself I can't see it being worth it. He can get vehicles at auction.

Ford knows all about these trucks

I cannot imagine putting another such engine back into it... can anyone comment on what gas engine might bolt to the tranny? Buy a used engine, pray a lot, and trade it in? Does Ford ding you on these diesels on trade in? They must know better than any whats going on with them... Any thoughts appreciated.
....And you can expect to take it in the shorts pretty badly on a trade. This last summer I was toying with the idea of trading mine in on a new one and they offered $12K for the truck in my signature with only 32K miles at the time. Of course, if you are a buyer then the truck is finest machine ever built with rock-solid reliability and is worth the $22K they are asking for 30 or so similar ones on the lot.

I feel for you, the options are limited and expensive. Ever thought of a Cummins transplant?

I can get a 7.3 for 5 grand, but does it bolt to the tranny? I imagine the Cummins would be a custom shoehorn job. Seems like a Ford gas engine would be the least trouble. Some sites sell 6.0 used for 3900$ with a few months warranty. Maybe finding some mechanic to take it for 2 grand woud be the least frustrating. My days of pulling engines are over, just doing the maintenance is enuf for me. Still want that JD 4 cylinder in there with no glow plugs and no start fluid and rady to run at 0 degrees. Why doesnt Ford go to John Deere and get an engine that would make people keep coming back?

If you put another 5k in it that is 10k invested. If you could sell for 3k that would be a loss of 2k. If you can buy another maybe 7.3 for 5k plus the 2k you lost that would be 7k invested. Just doing some math as I'm sure you can.
