2003 Fuel Pump Replacement

I have a dead fuel pump, and the updated 2006 part does not have the connection for the heater. Dealer says I have to buy a new harness that eliminates the connector for $18. Do I need the harness, or can I just cover the extra connector? I assume the new harness has a resistor in it so it does not set a heater code. Or should I swap the new fuel pump into the old housing and keep the heater? It does get cold here in MI.
