2004 6.0 ---> Clogged Turbo?

2004 6.0 with 68K on it, its been to the dealer numerous times but most recent (yesterday) took it in due to really rough start ups, coolant leak, white smoke, and intermittent exhaust smell in the cab. After doing some thread searching I figured it would be the EGR or a head gasket.

Got a call from the dealer today, told me my turbo was clogged and had a hose leak. He said the turbo had to be cleaned and the hose to be replaced at my cost. Now im not the most educated on alot of the technicals but I like to think I understand most things, I dont understand why my turbo would be clogged, or if this is the problem. Also, I would like to know why its not covered under the 100K warranty, dealer told me because its not a mechanical problem and that it is essentially poor design. ??? If its something that I didnt abuse and could not have prevented why shouldn't ford cover it?

Clogged Turbo -->
What causes it and why isn't it covered?

Thanks to anyone who can help

Cliff..If you past 5yr. warr. its not covered. AFAIK.. it should be w/$100. ded.JMO! Tec. cleans t. or it gets a reman.t. Look at TSB 06-4-12 6.0 PowerStroke bulletins

What was said about coolant leak, exhaust smell in cab etc. Look at TSB list. If your ok with dealer/svc then possibly a misunderstanding..talk with svc. mgr. If still no go..ask to have a fmc field rep involved. Stand your ground, but have patience, unless you have other dealers near by.
Good luck!

Thanks OT!

So I found a description on TSB 06-4-12

http://www.northcentralinc.com/bulle...SB_06-4-12.pdf

Im am not familiar with the TSB's. From what I have been reading I take it they are notices put out by the dealer regarding problems with the vehicle? If that is what it means should it be covered or is it just some sort of notification? Should I print the TSB or should I just give the number to the dealer? I checked on TSB 06-23-16 which I found at 6.0 PowerStroke bulletins and couldnt find anything.

What is my next step?

S..What is the build date of your 04.? If less than 5 yrs. your turbo & certain other parts ARE covered w/$100 ded. Parts covered are listed in warr. book. Obviously no warr. you pay full bill.

TSB is a notice for tec. on a problem & possible fix. Its not a recall where fmc notifies owner. Some do take TSBs to dealer/svc, I did. Good luck!
