so my buddy just bought a 2004 F-350 6.0 with 116,xxx miles on it, the truck seems to run really good and everything seems to work fine, but it does something I've never seen before. So when you turn the key on when it's cold you can hear the glow plugs and injectors and what not under the hood, which is normal but after running it he shuts the key off and you can hear the same noise after it shuts off. it runs for approx 30 seconds with no key in the ignition. any ideas?

should he just bring it to the dealer? he just bought the truck last night so he doesn't have any recall info

According to my indy mech, that is a good thing...in case any water whatsoever were to get into the fuel and past the separator, the injectors are able to "spit" everything out.

What?????????????????
Since the engine is not running when this is happening, there is no high pressure oil. Without high pressure oil, nothing gets injected, so nothing could get "spit out"....

The flash that shakes the spool valves was only used for a short period of time. That's probably why you haven't heard it before. There is nothing wrong with the flash or what it does. But folks complained about the noise. Ford then brought out the "inductive heating" flash to heat the spool valves instead of shaking them. Both flashes were created to deal with rough running on cold starts.

It was commonly referred to as the buzz flash and hurts nothing. It is, as stated above, the predecssor to the inductive flash. It helps with a phenom called injector stiction that affected cold starts. It is all done electrically thru the injector spool valves. It is supposedly easier on the FICM than the inductive flash. That is still being debated however.

FWIW...tuner at PHP said fmc updated the inductive heat flash hoping it will eliminate failures of ficm's. For those with this inductive strategy & had ficm failure (possible premature) maybe that is why?
I still have orig. f.i. buzz after shutdown (done 11/06) & for all that do maybe its good we have it, but? Apparently its just inductive flash as being suspect at this time. Anyhow, seem's another crap shoot has been created by fmc.? JMO!

Turn it off in gear if its automatic transmission until a mechanic can determine the problem.
