2004 f250 flood damage

hi i`m thinking about buying a 2004 f250 psd, thats for sale localy the dealer says that it was in a mild fresh water flood , now the engine cranks but it wont start and the odometer does not work everything else works in the truck(power windows locks etc) if somebody has some expirience with a flood damaged truck and has any idea of the potencial damage, and can offer some advice, it would very helpfull before i take the plunge ! and buy the truck, im afreid than the fix be more expencive that the truck !
thanks
Eddy

Re: 2004 f250 flood damage

Man I would say run !! I dont have any past experiance w/ flood vehicles just horror stories I have heard.I would NOT waste your time or money!!The dealer will sugar coat the deal to get rid of it.Fresh or Dirty water beware!! Electrical gremlins can take months to years to develop and nearly impossible to fix.And lets say you fix all of this and then you TRY to sell it and then you cant find a buyer ??
I know the low price can be tempting but in the long run you'll be glad you kept looking. Good Luck !!

Re: 2004 f250 flood damage

To me it would be a Huge risk.Every plug/connector has the potential of giving problems later on despite it "May" be working now.Not to mention needing to flush out differntials,Motor,Trans. You dont actually know if the engine ingested water and someone may have tryed to crank it and Hydrolocked it possibly bending a Rod.I may be extreeme on my "possibilities"on what could have happend.Thing is you dont know.It is a Big chance either way.Unless the price is Next to nothing i wouldnt do it.Besides that the Title is branded with the flood damage for any future selling of the tk if it worked out.

Re: 2004 f250 flood damage

RUN LIKE THE WIND!!!

I have only owned salvage title vehicles my whole life. I have repaired numerous flood vehicles for others and they will nickle an dime you to death. With every one I have fixed, it seems as though things just continuously go wrong with the vehicle down the road. I would rather buy a truck with a badly bent frame than a flood vehicle.

Re: 2004 f250 flood damage

I drove a new 2004 F250 off the lot and have spent 2 years trying to get Ford to fix it under warranty. Ain't no way I want a flooded 6.0.

Re: 2004 f250 flood damage

I would not buy it, if the dealer(I'm assuming a Ford dealer) has flagged it, all warranty is gone. Period, no if's, ands, or buts. I have had a flood vehicle come through my bay. It was a nightmare just to get it to run, but it is almost guaranteed that it will have more problems down the road.

Re: 2004 f250 flood damage

"Freshwater flood"... that's like saying that your girlfriend is "only a little bit pregnant"....

The only advice I can offer is to run away... run away very fast.... This truck will not be a mode of transportation... it will be a yard decoration.

I seen my share of flood damaged units and can think of better ways for me to waste my time and a customer to waste his money...

Re: 2004 f250 flood damage

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER buy a flood-damaged vehicle unless you just want a body shell, some glass or some chrome trim parts for another project.
