2004 F250 looking to buy need advice

It has the 6.0L crew cab long bed FX4 94,000 miles. The truck was originally from montana and has had three owners the third one drove it to florida and is having money problems and put it up for sale. it does have a small oil leak it was checked out by two mechanics and they said not to worry about it. it has had the PCM-TCM-FICM and EP sensor and connector recall work done.

They are asking 17,888 for the truck so its a good price I just don't want to put that money out and have problems. I used to have an 05 dodge 3500 cummins and loved it due to financial issues had to sell it. but now have the money to purchase the ford.

Would love to get your opinions.

P.S. at 50,000 miles the dodge had to have torque converter, valve body replaced. don't do any heavy towing and never abused it.

I bought mine which is a 2wd crewcab, two years ago w 126,000 miles and it need and egr valve and icp when i got it. Havent had any problems since and bought it for $16,ooo at a toyota dealer. Now it has 161.ooo miles. I think I might offer a cheaper price and see how bad they need money, hate to say that, but I see trucks on ebay or craigslist a lil cheaper.

If its a 2004 make sure its the newer style, they call it the 2004 1/2. You can tell this because the ICP is located on the right side valve cover (left if your facing the truck). Its right below the turbo tube.

If its not I would walk away. Just my 2 cents.

Honestly if you looking for a new truck look at some Dodge's too, they are really good trucks the the Cummins is a much better motor.

I agree with the engine part of your statement but the Dodge as a whole doesn't even come close to the Ford. Dodge is an over priced Tonka toy when it comes to the rest of the truck. JMHO.

ok we had an oasis report done and it had the recall work done, an egr, and a few transmission reprograms.

next we are going to take it to ford to see if it had a chip ever installed.

I really appreciate all the feedback.

04 f250

Another way to tell an early 04 from a late 04 with out looking at the build date is to look at the keyless entry keypad. If it is up close to the window and kind of bulky looking its early, if its right by the door handle and a little slimmer its ususally later. I have a Later 04 fx4 4x4 Lariat with 104k i bought the truck 5 months ago with 97k on it. The only problem i have really had was replaceing a cracked degas bottle. My truck was a one owner in Mint cond. when i bought it and thought i got it pretty reasonable at $16,500.
