Does anyone have any reliability information on these later years of the 6.0 production? I am looking to purchase a 2005 PSD, but am concerned about the reliability and quality. Is the 2006 or 2007 PSD a better choice?
My 06 has been trouble free for nearly 80,000 miles now. As far as trucks go, it has been one of the best I have ever owned. I'd jump into another 06 or 07 anytime, but I really think I'm going to the 6.4 on the next one.

As is usually the case with engines, they fix problems over time, and the later years are less problematic and more reliable than the earlier years.
In my opinion, some of the improved quality perception comes from better trained techs, and some comes from better software that was wrung out on earlier model years.
The only exception to this I can think of is that in 2005 they changed to a 'snap-to-connect' (STC) fitting on the high pressure oil pump (HPOP) which seems to be a problem for some folks. The symptoms are harder warm starting, ultimately resulting in a 'no start' if not corrected.
I really don't know for sure if this design was corrected during 2006, 2007 production, or if the fix was introduced later as a repair item. I think it is a post-production fix - meaning it is a potential issue for anyone (like myself) with a newer 6.0L

I have an '06 F-250 6.0 and have had issues with the EGR valves and the diff springing a leak 450 to fix the leak. EGR valve was replaced last June and it has gone south again. Truck has been in the shop now for 3 days trying to diagnose why the EGR Valve is going bad so frequently. Straight diesel burner no BIO. I have a couple of other farmers who have run over 100k with the 06 and they haven't had a bit of trouble.

40k on my 05 and no problems. I do all my own maintenance religously and clean out my egr every 10K. I also run 50/50 blend of WVO and diesel. Best truck I've ever had.

I am glad to see you made the jump. My dealer has really stood beside mine with the EGR issues and have replaced them when they went south. This was my first 6.0 and I still have a 01 7.3 6 speed stick with 165k on it and strong but I actually think the 6.0 does a bestter job for me. Both of them get still over 19.8 MPG, as long as I am not towing anything over 3500lbs. I tow some of my farm equipment from one field to another with either one and they do great.
Ford's supplier of EGR valves had issues and there were some bad batches of EGR valves. This was one of the main contributors to recent repeat EGR valve failures. I believe it is resolved now.
