2007 6.0 long start after engine cools?

I'm new to this forum and diesels. Just bought an '07 250 with 88,000 on it. After it is parked all night it takes longer than I expected to start. I let the glow plugs finish, then it takes about 3-5 seconds for the engine to start. She runs great after it starts. After it warms up it will crank all day long in 2 seconds or less. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned??

Check the oil level and determine (OASIS report from dealer) if you have the HPOP fitting upgraded. Common issue.

While you're there, expect to pay the $100 warranty deductible but get them to reflash the FICM for the inductive heat flash as well if not already done so. It has a TSB for starting issues. Might as well have them get that done if you have to pay the deductible anyways, it's not part of your described issue, but it's one of the TSBs for starting issues.

You're getting close to warranty expiration, have them check the engine oil temp and compare it to the coolant temp -- if more than 15-degrees, insist they change the oil cooler and egr cooler under warranty which is expensive if an out of pocket repair. Again, not related to your described starting issue but something worth checking if you have to bring it to the dealership.

More good info! I need to get as much as possible taken care of under warranty. I don't drive my truck much. Hopefully I will get another 1.5 yrs out of the 12,000 miles left. If you think of anything else, please let me know. I'm off all next week so will probably bring to the dealer the day after Labor day.

The dealer checked everything finding no problems. Only had 3000 miles on the sellers oil change, but I had them do an oil change anyway. I immediately noticed a difference. It idled smoother, and all around ran better, even on the top end. This morning the cold start was cut down to two seconds, with a better cold idle. The seller had rotello in it. I assumed the dealer used Rotello, but called to double check what they put in it. They used Motorcraft. I will stick with that!! Obviously MC works better in my truck.

you can get MC 15W40 at Walmart (5 gallon jugs), also a MC oil filter there to, you can change your oil for about $53.00, might want to pick up a 36mm socket for the oil filter lid and a 24 mm for the engine fuel filter lid, the 36 mm works for the frame fuel filter. The Fumoto drain valve works great changing oil, I can change the oil in my truck quicker than my wifes Explorer

I have a quick question... what is involved with the HPOP fitting upgrade?

It's located under the turbo's mount, so the turbo comes off. There is a picture of my $20 topside creeper in the photo section (see it under my name?) which helps out A LOT! Get some PB Blaster, let it soak several times before attempting to remove the turbo mount bolts with a 10mm 6-point socket. Since the turbo is coming off, good time to upgrade the two oil lines to the turbo and recondition it if you have time. Did mine myself and saved hundreds. Neighbors think I'm weird anyways...

I've had the same issue w/long crank, starting issue..Local diesel mech said it could be the check valve inside where the oil filter is,he said sometimes it sticks open and the oil drains out when it sits for a period of time causing not enough oil press.?? Thats why maybe after your oil change, it starts like it should after they changed the oil filter. I will find out when I do my oil change next week.. Hopefully that is it.
