350 PSD brakes

My 2004 350 dually PSD brakes are acting funny. When you press the brake pedal, the pedal is spongy, and the engine gets louder. I know that the diesel engine works different than the gas engine as far as brakes are concerned, what could make the engine vibrate when I press the brake pedal? Re: 350 PSD brakes

Only thing I can think of right now is the possibility that the same pump that provides the fluid under pressure for the power steering system and the brakes is not operating properly. I believe since the diesel engine lacks the necessary vacuum to operate conventional powered brakes that the power steering pump provides the power for the brake booster. Could be low on fluid, air in system or the drive belt does not have the proper tension. Just a wild guess.
Skilled technicians seem to be lacking from the site today, somebody has to work for a living.
