40 thousand miles and here are my results.

I have a 2006 F250 with 40,000 miles on it I have been all over the United States pulling a dual axle enclosed pace trailer loaded to the max with audio and stage equipment. I first want to say that it took alot of money lost for me to realize some cold hard facts in my case.

Fact 1 If you pull and enclosed trailer empty or loaded and you go 75 mph you will never get more than 10.75 mpg

Fact 2 If you use Pilot or4 Loves diesel your throwing away money I consitantly get 9mpg at 75 and 11 mpg at 65. I have more than thrown them enough money to know by now.

Fact 3 Going 65 mph towing will get you exactly 2 more miles to the gallon. (I get 12.25 mpg using T/A, or Flying J and sometimes up north Sunoco)

Fact 4 8 ounces of Lucas to 32 gallons of fuel will increase the above number to 12.75 mpg everytime at 65 mph not including mountain driving!

Fact 5 SCT Tow haul program gets the same mileage as the factory setting. SCT high performance mode will knock you back in your seat when your not towing. Unbelievable makes me smile when I pull up next to a rice burning car with wanna be fast and furious look. I love kicking their a$$ on a daily basis!

Fact 6 Ford charged me 181 dollars to flush the transmission. by the way they did not recommend changing the external filter until 90,000 miles ( the 3rd scheduled tranny flush) from the dealers on mouth. Its a rip off but aamco wont touch it and you cant do it yourself and get all the fluid out.

Fact 7 I run dino oil. I did do the amsoil thing I changed the filter every 5000 miles, I didnt notice any mileage increase. And I dont like black oil. It took 2 oil changes to get the color out from the amsoil. Meaning this when I changed the oil with new oil you could still see black on the dipstick from the black unchanged residual amsoil brought to light by the clean rotella. It seems senseless to me to add a 300 dollar oil by pass kit + $100 worth of synthetic then 20 - 25 dollars from the lab and then pay for a new by pass filter on top of that when all you have to do is change the oil every 5000 miles. I can get baldwin filters or fram for @ 13-15 dollars. 4 gallons of rotella is around 36. And you know what I dont have to worry about oil sheer or the levels being off. 5000 miles I change the oil period. I get 9 oil changes for the price of 1 bypass system, with oil and anaylsis which is 45,000 miles worth of driving heavy pulling for me. If you dont pull you can get 7500 miles on the oil.

Knock on wood the truck has been fantastic. I have pulled the blue ridge mountains in Va- The black dragon canyon in Utah headed to Vegas and at 118 degrees you can bet she moaned and groaned but she pulled through like a champ pulling 6000 extra pounds at 70 mph in most cases. Some points were 55 lets put it this way Id rather do 70-75 than 65 but with oil prices the way they are and me trying to make a profit and not stay in motel 6 at night I have no chioce. The money we save in slowing down afford us to upgrade to 4 star hotels. by the way our fuel bill last month was $3500 just in diesel not including the oil changes. Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

Looks like you kept some good records over this time. I try to do the same - where I put gas in, what type of driving I did for that period, etc. I have been thinking about getting an SCT as well.

Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

It is no problem at all. I know I have a unique perspective because we live on the road. Sometimes we put 2500 miles a week on it. The truck is not fancy in fact it is very fleet looking and a single cab at that. We put a leer camper and I have and a/c unit with a generator on the tongue of the pace. I drive, she works on the computers in the back editing photos. I do have 1 question that is bugging me. If I change the exhaust will I get better mileage? And if I change it im not doing 4" im going a full 5"! I also would like to buy some headlights. The fleet square with black trim looks like crap. (any aftermarket info would be very helpful) also on appearance I would like some rims the factory gray alloy look like shi+. If i did these changes I would be even happier. BTW the stock Pirelli scorpion tires rotated every 20,000 seem to have very little wear on them at all. The sct will blow your mind. And blow some black Diesel clouds out as well lol. I am not one of these guys who puts sct against banks or Bully dog I just know that when I called a dealer who sold all of the above said if you want the most power you want a SCT. And my god I swear to you 0-100 in no time at all its scary really. Especially the boost between 70-110 happens very very fast. The turbo whines a puff a black smoke pours out the side and you better hold on tight!!

Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

Check my pics in my sig. When I got the truck it had the same headlights as yours and it had the crappy steel wheels. Both the new headlights and the new wheels came from EBAY. I paid 125.00 for the lights and 325.00 for the lariat wheels. I have had the wheels for 4 years, they have been on two of my trucks and I love them. The headlights I have had on the truck for about a year and half and they have been great.

Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

read your post and I couldn't find for how many miles you actually used amsoil thing for?
I didn't see either what filters you used, amsoil filters have no competition on the market, amsoil recomends oem drain intervalsl filters/oil if any other filter used other than amsoil.
last bypass system I put on cost me only $100 including 2gal oil, bypass adapter and filter.
I plumbed it with left over a/n #6 pushlok hose.
I have added amsoil to many cars/trucks in various conditions, a well used engine over 100k is where most issues crop up. amsoil used in a clean engine will stay clean for the term of the oils interval 25k. an engine that let's say has 90 k with 8k dino oil changes has much more gunk inside the engine than at 50k, the engine with dino oil/cheaper filters will wear more due to more time spent with the engine operating with dirty oil, fresh oil dosent remove smoked dino oil off of piston ringlands, it actually adds to that area cause fresh dino will smoke and operate In a failing state at 370f, at that temp dino is just like burnt food on the oven skillet.
it takes a full 25kamsoil interval to get a dirty engine in some state of cleaner than what it was before amsoil.
a newer car/truck less than50k with amsoil never has gunk/sludge issues.
if you would of added amsoil trans/gear lube you would of noticed an increase in mpg. 40k how many with amsoil? sounds like you didn't use all the resources you had available to you, maybe u were too busy, looks like u had lots of fun

Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

I think he was trying for better Fuel Economy with the Amsoil. At least that's what I got out of it. I don't get better Fuel Economy with Amsoil or Mobil 1 I just don't have to change the Oil every 3 weeks!!

Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

To answer your question. I used the amsoil for for exactly 15,000 miles and it was dirty as all get out. No I did not use a oil by pass system as earlier stated. I used baldwin filters and I changed them at each 5000 mile interval. And I have to tell you having owned a 7.3 liter previously that I bought at an auction and didnt really care for as much as I should have I can tell you for a fact I went 20,000 miles on rotella 1 time adding as I went and the oil I drained from wasnt near as black as the amsoil at 15,000 miles and on top of that. This again is my issue with the amsoil the by pass even for 100 bucks is a deal however thats 2 oil changes. The amsoil for me was $107 and change. So thats 4 oil changes. Blackstone is $20- 25 so thats half an oil change. If the oil is sheered im out 107 more dollars plus the $25 to tell me its all crapped out so thats another 2 oil changes. And how much is that by pass filter again? If you really want the truth the ford oil that the factory gives you and you get from is clean as a whistle after 5000 miles. It goes in a whole lot clearer than the rotella or dello. I am not about to fool with ANY transmission additive from anyone I was told by several people it will screw with the ford fluid. I did look into someone else flushing the tranny and not 1 company would do it. ford has the racket on the torque shift fluid and they will probably keep it that way. my ford dealer wants $4.75 a quart and draing it yourself only yields 6 quartsfrom the plug and 3/4 quart from the cooler and connecting lines. It is quite possible that the amsoil oil was still good I didnt bother to check. All that I know for sure is that it was extremely dirty and thats when I decided at that time the dino at 5,000 miles was better for me than 15,000 miles and 1/3 quart with every filter change. And maybe you think im nutso but 1 1/2 quarts of kerosene idled at 5 min before you change the oil WILL take care of any sludge problem you ever get. We have a massy fergueon that is 42 years old and that has been the solution since before I was born and its still running and never ever been overhauled. And gets worked on 400 acres on a daily basis for 200 head of cattle. I know many of you think im full of bull but I can tell you the only thing we have ever changed is the aftermarket in line fuel filters and the oil "SCREEN". Its so old the muffler still has "beep beep ya ass" with the road runner on it remember those??

Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

thanks for the reply, yep you may have been disappointed using amsoil with baldwin filters, filters are not all the same, all of amsoil filters won't let anything bigger than 2-5 micron pass and bypass filters remove soot and leaves the oil anatically clean in 15 minute drive. I know you changed the filters at 5k but if they only catch particles as small as only 20/40 micron the additive in the oil that suspends contaminates has more dirt to deal with, evetually additive depletes and oil needs change, rember those k&n air filters breath in lots of dirt that ends up in oil, as silicone content.
for any diesel engine that works hard needs the best oil/air filters money can buy, using better filters extends engine life using dino or synthetic oils.

gas 350 engine sucks 7000 gallons of air to one gallon of gas, diesel? has to suck more air, open intake.

Re: 40 thousand miles and here are my results.

No offense, but unless you have a lab perform a O/A and provide the scienctific proof of an oils servicability at any given moment in a drain interval you myaswell say your kid's black crystal 8-ball told you it was/wasn't fit for service.

Any number of good quality oils could be black as coal and still be scientifically better then many lessor quality oils before they were even poured into a block.

p.s. I'm currently running Delvac in my PSD and ran Delo before that.
