4X4 Switch

The other day I turned my switch for 4*4 and it did not kick in. The indicator light did not light up either. I tried again did not work again. Then I turned the ignition off and restarted the motor and everthing was back to normal. I have switched it in and out several times since then, no problem.

I am curious have any of you had this problem and should I worry about this. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Re: 4X4 Switch

I have never liked ESOF 4X4. I like the lever that you pull and you can see and feel it go in or out. I have never owned a "shift on the fly" transfercase.

Re: 4X4 Switch

Try holding the brake pedal down firmly when switching.

Re: 4X4 Switch

You should be able to engage 4-wheel drive HIGH while the truck is in gear and moving. To get into 4-wheel LOW the truck has to be stopped and in natural or park before it will engage. Did you turn the knob to far?

Re: 4X4 Switch

Moving it goes in good, stopped, it gets finicky for high range, but going to low you have to back up or move forward a little, stop and try it. Gear binding causes it to stick sometimes and rocking the truck back and forth lets it slip in. I "excersise" mine every week and it gets better with time.

Re: 4X4 Switch

Dave,
Mine went bad last year with only 400 miles on it. Sounds like the same type of problems i was having. Every once in a while it would not go in and once i restarted it, it was fine. Got to the point that 4 high would engage but 4 LOW would not. Took it to the shop and they replaced what i was told was the 4 Wheel Drive MODULE?

I did not recieve my paper work bc i picked it up after hours and well sorta forgot about it. Since then no problems at all. I use mine about 1 or 2 a week..and 32k and doing just fine!

PM me if you need some more info...

Re: 4X4 Switch

I have been using these switches on my chevy's and gmc's. They too go bad now and then. When it did not work for me now-- no lights came on at all. On my other trucks the lights came on but nothing happened. Seems like a computer glich. We will see. I use my 4*4 on a regular basis in my line of work. So I should find out if it is going to go bad pretty quick. I only have 7000 on the truck so I am in good shape. This is the very first problem I have had with this truck. So far I couldn't be happier with this truck it kicks butt.

Thanks for all the info

Dave
