Bought a new '99 with a 7.3 2wd with automatic. Put over 250,000 miles on it before selling and it is still running. Change pump, two injectors and tranny it this time.
Also have a 2004 CC Dodge, 4x4, auto with a Cummins. Does well.
Lookin to purchasing a used CC, 4x4, auto with either a 6.0 or 7.3.
Concerned from what I have read that the 6.0 will not perform for the long haul.
Don't know about the 6.0 in the long haul, but it will sure outperform the 7.3 in the short haul! I wish I could drive mine more, working out of town stinks!
I don't really believe that anyway. There's no reason why a well-cared for 6.0 can't hit the 200,000 mark. Mine runs great and has only had minor issues up to my current 63k miles.
The 6.0 is much, much more fun to drive than my old 7.3 and I'm very pleased. Beware the '03 models, beware the chipped/programmed trucks if you're buying used.

I have a small consrtuction business and own and have owned several trucks that are gassers and if treated properly all have had between 140,000 to almost 200,000 miles on them when sold (mostly bought by employees who still drive them). I know of several people with powerstokes pushing 500,000 miles with only minor repairs and I believe at 200,000 miles there is plenty of life left in these trucks.
It seems that in the 70's the 100,000 mile mark was the kiss of death for an automobile but I just don't believe that applies anymore

When I first picked up my 6.0 I started reading the 6.0 forums here and seen alot of negative on the motor. In the past 4 months I've put on 23k miles on it so far. I personally like my 6.0L better.
The fuel mileage is near double of the 7.3; just starting the motor; you can hear how smooth it is when it starts.
I see alot of complaints with the headgaskets puking and such, I have Zero problems. I treat my 6.0 the same as my 7.3 and so far no problems. Yeah I dont care for the EGR valve, and I don't care for the fact it don't like to really get going until it hits 2K RPM, but you'll just have to drive it to appreciate it.
I say just take care of it and not pretend your at the Indy 500 at every redlight and you'll be fine.
If it's like anything else, people don't like change. I don't like change, but I do like the 6.0 over the tried and true 7.3.
