6.0 Engine build date

I know I've seen it somewhere, but where do I find the build date on my engine? Thanks in advance.

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

It's on a label on top of the ficm which is just below the coolant degas bottle.

It's listed day/month/year.

IIRC the label is yellow and it is just after where it says EN100

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

DED, thanks, I went out and looked. It says 061204. So I guess that means December 6th, 2004, right? Thanks for the quick answer!

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

Fine69, according to your build date you could have the front main seal leak,if the build was in Indianapolis. This was very common from Thanksgiving that year to Febuary of the next year. It included mine to many others. If you haven't noticed you might want to check.

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

Thanks Mark, thats why I was asking about the build date. So far, no leaks, hopefully it stays that way. (I probably just jinxed myself).

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

Just for verification...... on your build date. Check the build date of the truck, on the door jam. Make sure your truck build date isn't before 12/04. If it is then your engine is June 12, 04. I don't know if the date format on the engine stickers vary from plant to plant, but mine is in the format of MM/DD/YY...(052803) My engine came from the huntsville facility. You can sometimes use the truck build date to eliminate confusion because the engine build date has to be before the truck build date.

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

DownEastDiesel,

My door jamb tag says 02/04 for the "Truck Build Date?" How do you find the specific day ? Also, the tag on the FICM says 03 DEC 2003 and is peeling off (very hard to read). How do I determine WHERE the truck and engine were built/assembled ??

Thanks in advance,
Roger

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

Ok, I'll take a look. I do know my motor says it was built at Indy, if that helps.

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

OK I looked in door jamb, it says it was built 12/04. Doesn't give an exact date. So I guess my motor was also built in December. Sound right? Thanks everybody for the help.

Roger, You get the exact build date of the truck off an oasis report. On the jamb of the drivers door it'll get you close by showing month/year.

In my case the jamb sticker shows 02/05. On my FICM sticker it also specifies Indianapolis plant.

I have to agree with the earlier poster who's date code reads mm/dd/yy on the FICM sticker. Check your door jamb sticker and better yet check your oasis report. The 2 dates should be very close with the engine being built first.

About the dreaded oil leak, I too have noticed a small amount of oil on the b/h. Initially noticed with 3600 on the odometer, at almost 11K now and still no oil drop stains in the driveway. I'm not going to bother the dealer with it unless it gets way worse.

Trucks running too damn good

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

So, do ya think my motor was built 6 months before my truck? Or am I wrong?

Re: 6.0 Engine build date

I'd say the engine was built December 06, 2004 and I'll go out on a limb and guess the truck build date will be Wednesday, December 8, 2004.

I don't believe an engine would sit around for 6 months waiting to be dropped into the line. That just wouldn't make any sense.

DED

On Edit: Just checked out your photos. Man, that's a nice looking truck you got there.
